Der Font-Marathon ist für Monotype ein Experimentierfeld, ein Trainingslager und eine Ausdauerübung par excellence. Normalerweise gehen Schriftentwerfer mit einem klaren Konzept oder Briefing an die Arbeit, das sowohl kreative Beschränkungen mit sich bringt als auch jede Menge Abstimmung mit dem Auftraggeber zur Folge hat. Und so kann es Monate dauern, bis eine neue Schrift mit mehreren Schnitten fertig entwickelt ist. Das Font-Marathon-Prinzip ist anders: gestalterisch ist alles erlaubt – je verrückter, umso besser –, allerdings in kürzester Zeit. Die Vorgaben: Drei Tage für den Designprozess, einer für die Produktion und einen knappen halben Tag für die Vertriebsvorbereitung.
