Loving Birthday Cake

Loving Birthday Cake
Good morning, friends! Today I have to wish a big happy birthday to my little sister. She moved away for the first time earlier this year so it’s her first birthday away from home. So I figured, why not celebrate with her from afar by sharing a whole bunch of birthday cakes that had me at hello? {Photos by Nicole Hill Gerluat for One Charming Party.} {Photo by Cindy Chae.} {Photos by Elizabeth Messina of Kiss the Groom and Elizabeth Messina.} {Photos by Jackie Wonders from Sherbet + Spice |Ana Gonzaelz for Cakewalk from Strawberry Birthday Party.} {Photo by Sweetapolita.} {Photos by Sweetapolita.} {Photos by Annie Hosfeld via Hip Hip Hooray via Kara’s Party Ideas | Mo Hines via Green Wedding Shoes.} {Photo by DeFalco Photography for Vintage Sugarcube via Hello Lucky.} {Photos by Kallie Brynn from Tova’s 2nd birthday | Ardent Photography from Emerson’s 1st birthday.}

How To Make Banana Cake I’ve had plenty of banana bread in my day. But it always seems like more of a cold weather food. Go figure, a tropical fruit that makes a cold weather bread. Doesn’t make sense, but that’s how it is. This cake, though, is lighter than any banana bread I’ve ever had. Ingredients 2 cups sugar ½ cup butter (1 stick) 2 egg yolks 3 cups all-purpose flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon baking soda ½ teaspoon salt 1 cup milk 3 crushed bananas 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 egg whites, beaten Metric conversion (estimate) 500 g sugar 60 g butter 2 egg yolks 375 g all-purpose flour 7 g baking powder 4.7 g baking soda 2.4 g salt 235 ml milk 3 crushed bananas 5 ml vanilla 2 egg whites, beaten Directions Combine the sugar and butter and beat on low speed until completely combined. Add the egg yolks and beat on high speed until the mixture is smooth and fluffy. In a separate bowl, combine the dry ingredients — flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt — and whisk thoroughly. And that’s it. Loading ...

The Best Chocolate Sheet Cake. Ever. When I posted my recipe for "The Best Lasagna Ever" yesterday, I couldn’t have anticipated that I’d wind up hearing from Draco, a real-live Italian who lives near Bologna, Italy, where lasagna was first created. Nor could I have ever predicted I’d hear from MP, who lives in an Italian neighborhood and buys Parmiganno-Regianno by the bag, dang it. I might just go ahead at this point and clarify that yes, my lasagna is, in fact, "The Best Ever"…unless you live near Bologna, Italy or in an Italian neighborhood or anywhere near Mario Batali. Now…this cake? The Cast of Characters. First, melt 2 sticks regular (not unsalted) butter in a saucepan. When the butter is melted, add 4 heaping tablespoons cocoa powder… And mix thoroughly. With the heat still on, pour in the boiling water… And allow the mixture to bubble for 30 seconds. Turn off heat. In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups flour, 2 cups sugar… And 1/4 teaspoon salt. Stir together. Pour the hot butter/chocolate mixture over the top… Sigh.

Banana Bread Pancake Recipe Here’s what I know about pancakes. They taste good with cherries. Apples and bacon too. They make slept-in mornings with toothpaste stains eight thousand times better. They are what my dad stuffs with blueberries. They probably wouldn’t be good with things like broccoli or beans… because that’s just weird. Oh! They taste extra excellent with ice cream on top. Even better steaming hot with oozing butter… then ice cream on top. They save marriages. They aren’t the best choice for breakfast when you want to wear a string bikini. They often slip you into a welcoming food coma that causes you to desk nap. They are darn good. They are cake. Seriously. Now hold your horses. I feel bad declining him day after day. But it’s the combination… the bananas, the brown sugar, the maple vanilla glaze… that has etched this breakfast into the rotation at our house. There is a reason this is huge. So now people can eat banana bread without stuffing an entire loaf down their face. makes 12 pancakes 1/4 teaspoon salt

Grab 5 fresh strawberries. You can use any fruit you like, or add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and top with hot fudge. Wash and slice the fruit, then put it in a food processor. Add 1 tablespoon of sugar and pulse until the fruit is pureed. Add the pureed fruit to a large mixing bowl. Add 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons of powdered (confectioner’s) sugar to the fruit. Followed by 2-1/2 cups of heavy whipping cream. No need to mess up the big standing mixer for this. That’s a soft peak, just able to hold its shape. Pour this wonderful concoction into a covered container and into the freeze for 3-5 hours. I made some pecan shortbread to serve with the ice-cream…….or was it the other way around? Enjoy!!! the wanna be country girl – Caroline

beachh <3 Baked Garlic Potato Wedges Recipe I have made these Baked Garlic Potato Wedges many many times, each time with some variation or the other, and it has always come out super well. Its a pity these baked potato wedges took this long to show up here but the main reason is, this is a recipe I always use to show off how awesome I am (works each time like a charm) so its almost always made when I have someone visiting. Finally, I decided enough is enough and managed two quick photos on the side table before I served them. I should say that my skills of cutting potato into wedges have greatly improved since the first time, purely out of practice. Meanwhile, make bake these! There's a reason why they are the most popular recipe on Shaheen's blog. Baked Garlic Potato WedgesServes 2Adapted from Purple Foodie How to Make Baked Potato Wedges 0. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Note:

A Fast Way to Bake Cookies: Use a Waffle IronFine Cooking | Apartment Therapy The Kitchn We don't have a waffle iron. It's one of those small appliances that's only good for one thing, and we don't eat that one thing often enough to warrant owning one. But if we could use it to make cookies? Maybe we'd reconsider. We saw this tip at Fine Cooking and were immediately intrigued. However, if you're someone who rations out her dough, baking just a couple of cookies at a time so that they're always hot and fresh, this could be a great method. We haven't tried this recipe, and we can't (see above note about not owning a waffle iron), but we're curious if anyone else has made cookies this way. • Get the recipe: Oatmeal-Chocolate Chip Waffle Cookies, from Fine Cooking Related: Fudge and Walnut Oatmeal Cookies (Image: Alexandra Grablewski)

Avocado Fries I have a particularly tragic memory of looking at rental houses with my friend when he first moved to LA and finding one that actually had an avocado tree in the backyard. I mean, a tree that was taller than the house and was heavy with ripe avocados This memory is tragic because my friend didn’t rent the house. If he had, I would have had a never ending supply to feed my avocado addiction.BTW – what are avocados, a vegetable? Some weird fruit? Tagged as: Aioli, Appetizer, Avocado, Fries

Rainbow Cake in a Jar I’ve always had a penchant for sunshine in a jar. Doesn’t the very phrase itself, “sunshine in a jar,” roll off your tongue and fill your mouth with magic? While I’ve never yet found myself a sunshine in a jar, I think we may have just concocted it in our kitchen tonight. In this simple recipe, a basic white cake is turned into a slew of bright colors, baked to perfection, then topped with a creamy white frosting. Cakes baked in jars can be topped with traditional metal canning lids and stored in the fridge for up to five days. Rainbow Cake in Jar 1 box white cake mix made according to package instructionsNeon food coloring in pink, yellow, green, turquoise, and purple3 one-pint canning jars1 can vanilla frostingRainbow sprinkles Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Scoop about 1/2 cups of cake batter into five small bowls. Spoon about 3 tablespoons of the purple batter into the bottom of each jar.
