Educavox A true model for mobile learning: how we interact with technology I was fortunate enough to see Cirque du Soleil last night, an astonishing performance of athleticism and creativity. For those of you who haven’t seen them, Cirque provide a modern take on circus skills, blending vibrant costumes, elaborate props and modern technology. They have some seriously ambitious staging: in this case, giant video screens that formed the floor, but could rise up to make walls or slopes, all the stage for the performance. The technology, in itself, was impressive, but it’s role was to facilitate the creativity. Social technology: to serve and to create As mobile technology permeates ever further into our lives, informal technology supporting social interactions, i thought it may be valuable to think about two ways that technology enables us: how it serves us, how it helps us to create. The clue is in the names ‘social learning‘ and ‘social technology‘. Like this: Like Loading...

USJFCOM - Joint Forces Command Washington's $8 Billion Shadow Mega-contractors such as Halliburton and Bechtel supply the government with brawn. But the biggest, most powerful of the "body shops"—SAIC, which employs 44,000 people and took in $8 billion last year—sells brainpower, including a lot of the "expertise" behind the Iraq war. , Donald L. Barlett and James B. Steele report:The McLean, Virginia, offices of Science Applications International Corporation, a "stealth company" with 9,000 government contracts, many of which involve secret intelligence work. Photograph by Coral von Zumwalt. One of the great staples of the modern Washington movie is the dark and ruthless corporation whose power extends into every cranny around the globe, whose technological expertise is without peer, whose secrets are unfathomable, whose riches defy calculation, and whose network of allies, in and out of government, is held together by webs of money, ambition, and fear. To be sure, there isn't really such a corporation: the Omnivore Group, as it might be called.

The Return of Aaron Barr: Victim of Embarrassing Hacking Now Cybersecurity Chief at Large Federal Contractor By NEIL GORDON If you have been following the twists and turns of the Wikileaks saga, you might remember the incident earlier this year involving an IT executive named Aaron Barr and the activist hacker group known as Anonymous. It's a comically bizarre story, but it has larger implications that deserve to be taken very seriously. In February, Barr, CEO of cybersecurity consulting firm HBGary Federal, unwittingly picked a fight with the pro-Wikileaks band of hackers when he boasted in an online article that his company had successfully infiltrated Anonymous by trolling online social media and had gathered personal data on its members. After the story broke, Barr resigned from HBGary Federal. The ethics complaint is still pending. The story eventually fell off the radar—until last week. However, Barr can’t completely escape his past. Barr did not respond to POGO's email requesting comment. Neil Gordon is a POGO Investigator. Image of Team Themis letterhead via The Pirate Bay.
