ARKive - Discover the world's most endangered species Wildscreen's Arkive project was launched in 2003 and grew to become the world's biggest encyclopaedia of life on Earth. With the help of over 7,000 of the world’s best wildlife filmmakers and photographers, conservationists and scientists, Arkive.org featured multi-media fact-files for more than 16,000 endangered species. Freely accessible to everyone, over half a million people every month, from over 200 countries, used Arkive to learn and discover the wonders of the natural world. Since 2013 Wildscreen was unable to raise sufficient funds from trusts, foundations, corporates and individual donors to support the year-round costs of keeping Arkive online. Therefore, the charity had been using its reserves to keep the project online and was unable to fund any dedicated staff to maintain Arkive, let alone future-proof it, for over half a decade. Despite appeals for support, just 85 of our 5.6 million users in 2018 made a donation.

The Atlantic - In Focus The autumnal equinox took place on September 22, marking the end of summer and the start of fall across the Northern Hemisphere. Autumn is the season of harvests, festivals, migrations, winter preparations, and of course, spectacular foliage. Across the north, people are beginning to feel a crisp chill in the evening air, leaves are reaching peak color, apples and pumpkins are being gathered, and animals are on the move. Collected here are some early images from this year's autumn -- more will come later as the season unfolds. Chinese Daily Photos, 2011, 2012 & 2013 - Page 209 Urban management (chengguan) authorities in Yan'an, Shaanxi Province said Wednesday they have fired and punished the officers who beat the owner of a bicycle shop and stomped on his head. Two officers are in custody. After a video of the incident posted online on Friday went viral, it sparked public outrage over the brutal tactics used by the officers, amid the belief that authorities are passing the buck by blaming contract employees. Of the eight officers involved in Friday's incident, six temporary employees were fired by the urban management bureau, with the other two regular employees being penalized. According to the video, the officers are attempting to confiscate several bicycles from outside the store. The owner of the store, Liu Guofeng, is seen lying on the ground, when a heavy-set officer deliberately jumps on his head with both feet. "A group of chengguan got out of their van and took the bicycles from in front of the shop without saying anything," Li said.

Communities and Connections: Social Interest Mapping Copyrighted image Credit: Featureflash 8 | Dreamstime.com 9 By convention, any article which mentions Twitter must be illustrated with a photo of Stephen Fry The themes of this week's TEDxMK event of Communities, Connections & Conversations 10 invite participants to explore how technological and social innovation can strengthen and enrich public life. The rapid growth of online social networks will surely play a part in this, providing as they do a way for individuals to congregate and communicate based on personal, professional, commercial and interest led relationships. To a certain extent, today's dominant social networks may be caricatured (at least on the basis of their origins), in the following ways: Facebook has captured what is often referred to as "the social graph", a network of connections between people who are related, know each other personally, or who come to know each other as friends of friends. 11 communicates information about the OU, @ComActMK
