House of Smith's: Hanging Roses Flower Ball Tutorial

House of Smith's: Hanging Roses Flower Ball Tutorial
I was browsing blogs a couple weeks back and found a post about these great hand made crepe paper roses on this cute scrapbooking blog! Homespun with Heart The second I saw them I KNEW what I was gonna do! I have had these Styrofoam ball forms for a while now, and thought I would do cute flowers all over them, and hang them in the twins' room. Especially because I wanted to do three of them. SO I thought this was a great, thrifty alternative! And I LOVE how they turned out! Here's what you'll need: Styrofoam ball forms Crepe paper streamers in whatever colors you choose LOTS of hot glue sticks and a glue gun a roll of tape and a measuring stick I measured my crepe paper strips at 24 inches, and ripped a BUNCH at that length, so I wouldn't have to keep stopping, to rip more Once that was done... and my glue gun was nice and hot, I started in on my flower makin'! First I crumpled the strips up, to make them softer and more fabric looking... Then I straighted them out.... And began to roll. Easy-peezy!

Yes, you read that correctly... coffee filters in all of their natural tan glory! Sometimes she uses filters as is, and other times stains each one with the juice of vegetables and spices, such as collard greens, beets, spinach, saffron, or paprika. Originally a journalist in Brazil and now a stay-at-home-mom, Vilma is inspired by her native country's love of dark coffee, rich spices, and muita alegria or joy. Vilma cuts and ties wire cloth to create a lampshade's framework. She also uses coffee filters to create impressive wall decor on wood-framed canvas. Confetti Invitations + Template Mar 14 I made this prototype for a couple who needed save-the-dates for a wedding. We ended up doing something else but these turned out so cute I thought I would do a tutorial on how to make them. These little tubes shoot a little burst of confetti when you twist them. The problem is they are usually ugly and the confetti inside them is usually poor quality (like five little sad strands.) We were going to do these as save-the-dates but they would work great as party invitations for any event. MaterialsCheap Party Poppers (you can find these at most party supply stores) 12 for $10Confetti (buy this or make your own–get out your hole punches!) Then download the template for free right here or you can design your own. Step 1 Disassemble the confetti shooter. Step 2 Reassemble the canister and reset the spring so it is spring loaded. Step 3 Fill the loaded canister with confetti and the invitation. Step 4 Take your new label and remove the backing. Voila!

Part 19 – 3-D Framed Flowers I had to finish up that 2nd bathroom. There was some vertical wall space that was shouting for me to fill up. So I did. With some little 3-D framed flowers. That Pop. Now I have my own mini flower garden up on the wall. All 3 are different…… ……..but kinda fun in their own way. Now I just need to draw some water, grab a book, and soak in the tub. Ready to make some yourself? (I used 100% cotton for all fabric used below.) Find some old frames…..any size will do. Then spray paint them the color you’d like and allow them to dry. Then grab the matte of the frame (and the filler cardboard piece if there is one) and cut some coordinating fabric that is slightly bigger than the matte. Fold the fabric over all four sides and hot glue into place. Then place the fabric covered piece back into the frame and put the back onto the frame. Repeat with all of your frames. …..Now to make the flowers….. This twisted little flower was made just like the flower shown here. This multi-petal flower was made And that’s it.

Craft DIY Projects, Patterns, How-tos, Fashion, Recipes @ Craftzine.com - Felting, Sewing, Knitting, Crocheting, Home & More Quilling, the coiling and shaping of narrow paper strips to create a design, has been around for years — hundreds, in fact. During the Renaissance, nuns and monks would roll gold-gilded paper remnants trimmed during the bookmaking process, and use them to decorate religious objects as an alternative to costly gold filigree. Quilling later became a pastime of 18th and 19th century young ladies in England, who would decorate tea caddies and pieces of furniture with paper filigree. The practice crossed the Atlantic with colonists, who added quilling to candle sconces and trays as home decorations. In all of that time, the process has remained very much the same, but quilling designs and specialty supplies have definitely caught up to the 21st century. Today some aficionados focus on making incredibly detailed 3-D figures, while others favor wall-sized museum installations. Many arts and crafts stores sell basic tools and packages of multicolor paper strips. Materials Directions Ann Martin

diy: Braided Bead Necklace I couldn't have predicted so many jewelry posts. What can I say? I get on kicks. I saw a necklace like this in a store but it was shorter and the braid contained different kinds of beads. I wanted it longer with one type of bead. An amount of beads, it's hard to say how many, I used about 4 more beads than this jar holds. Next, take two strands of beads and thread the two threads through one bead tip. Repeat for each pair and then repeat on the opposite end, making sure to get the knot as close to the bead tip as possible. Clamp three of the ends to one large jump ring. The braiding part is a little tricky if you don't secure your beads strands to something. *Finally, the note about the clasp.

Tutorial: A Scrappy Strip Rose I have a fun new flower tutorial for you that’ll use up some of your scraps. Mine is attached to my bag as you can see, and it looks so cute that I almost forget my bag is full of diapers and crumbled goldfish crackers. Now on the tutorial… First you’ll need: - 2.5” wide scraps of fabric in whatever colors your heart desires cut to various lengths. - A sewing machine and a needle and thread. -A piece of felt or other strong fabric, a hot glue gun, and a broach bracket. Here are my various 2.5" wide strips. Now folding your strip in half as you go, serge OR sew a zig zag stitch down the raw edges. With your sewing machine….increase the stitch length as high as it will go (a 4 on my machine) and increase the thread tension as high as it will go. **** I tried this gathering method on a computerized machine first and it would NOT work. This is what it should look like after its sewn: When you get to the end, or the flower is as big as you want it, cut off the end and tuck the end to the back.

DIY Solar Lamp: Make Your Own Eco-Friendly Sun Jars « Dornob The principle is simple and seductively clever: solar lights that store energy during the day and release light at night. These can be purchased ready-made in a variety of colors (yellow, blue and red) but they can also be built at home. A simple, less-technical approach involves buying a conventional solar-powered yard lamp and then essentially harvesting it for key pieces to put in a jar. A more electronically-savvy individual can take the more complex route and built a solar lamp from the ground up using small solar panels – though the aesthetic result may not be as impressive. Whatever route you choose to go, these are fun and sustainable gadgets that make it easy to go green, automate the process of turning on lights at night and can add some color to your porch, patio, garden or windowsill.
