Convoquée par Harlem Désir, le secrétaire d’Etat français aux Affaires Européennes et son homologue allemand Michael Roth, Ministre Adjoint des Affaires Européennes, la conférence sortait d’une routine redoutée en relançant l’idée d’un «campus européen à Strasbourg». Pourtant, la présence à Metz d’Alain Beretz, le Président de l’Université strasbourgeoise et celle de Hans-Jochen Schiewer, Recteur de l’Université de Fribourg et Président d‘EUCOR, la «Confédération Européenne des Universités du Rhin Supérieur»(1) aurait du alerter sur l’intérêt d’une rencontre qui allait concerner l’Université et l’Espace Rhénan.
