Peter Vesterbacka, Maker of Angry Birds Talks about the Birds, Apple, Android, Nokia, and Palm/HP | Mobile and Social Media Posted on 27. Dec, 2010 by hilzfuld in iPhone, Tech inShare46 By: Hillel Fuld There are many speculations regarding the cause of the recent global economic recession, but we all know the truth. Another mind boggling statistic about Angry Birds, and you should sit down for this one, is that there are 200 million minutes played a day on a global scale. Finally, the Angry Birds recently participated in a peace treaty with the pigs on TV, a video which quickly experienced a viral explosion. 1. “Angry Birds came to be by a very analytical approach. Anyway, the game was built around the characters that Jaakko Iisalo, our game designer, came up with. 2. “Everybody on the team has more than 5 years of game making experience, so yes, serious experts;-)” 3. “Apple will be the number one platform for a long time from a developer perspective, they have gotten so many things right. Besides Apple and Google, it will be interesting to see how long it will take for Nokia to get their act together. 4. 5.

2011 will be the year Android explodes - Google 24/7 (Not this kind of smartphone growth.) Image by @boetter via Flickr Ever-improving networks and a big hardware announcement that will send handset prices plummeting both point to smartphone growth in 2011 that could totally eclipse anything we've seen before. Smartphones have been growing at an unbelievable clip over the past year but they still account for only around a third of all phones in the US and an even smaller percentage internationally. In developing countries, the price of smartphones, aside from some 'quasi-smart' Nokias (NOK) are out of reach for all but the elite. Globally, market intelligence firm IDC counted 269.6 million smartphones sold this year, compared to the 173.5 million units shipped in 2009. In 2011, we might see half a billion phones sold worldwide. Two major factors will drive this, in tandem: Wireless infrastructure is getting better every day, and hardware is getting cheaper. But the kicker is the price. That, in turn will likely push data prices down.

Mobile Economics Will Trend Toward Web Economics I've been saying for a while now that I think mobile economics will trend toward web economics as the mobile web goes mainstream. In other words, the business models that work best on the web will ultimately work best in mobile. The corollary to that is that the business models that don't work well on the web will not work well in mobile in the long run. And that includes tablets. There is some discussion in the tech blogs today about why iPad magazine sales have been disappointing. A central issue with the Internet, no matter what device and presentation layer you use to access it, is that there is an unlimited amount of content available. For a while Apple has provided something that has looked like exclusivity and scarcity. But the mobile web is going mainstream in a big way in the next year. I do not believe that Apple's model is going away. I think it means the mobile is slowly but surely moving to a web model.

7 Mobile Apps Students Can Use to Never Lose Handwritten Notes Again A couple of weeks ago on my Android blog I wrote about using the Google Drive app to create digital archives of handwritten notes. That post was prompted by a conversation that I had with a young lady entering her senior year at a high school in Rockingham County, North Carolina. That young lady explained to me that she preferred the act of handwriting her notes and outlines to typing them out on a keyboard. InClass is a free iPhone and iPad app that could be a very useful tool for students carrying those devices. SugarSync is a cloud storage service that offers apps for iOS and Android. Evernote is the service that I've been to store all of my bookmarks for the last year. Skitch, which was bought by Evernote late last year, is designed for creating sketches and marking-up images. With Google Drive installed on an Android device students can take a picture of anything and instantly upload it to their Google Drive accounts.
