"String Theory" Thread Sculptures by Gabriel Dawe & ArtStormer I never took to knitting. One reason may be that it is accepted that you will have to rip out rows at some point in the process. This alone drives me up a tree. I never let perfection be the enemy of the good and knitting just doesn’t work that way. I’d never have made it on the prairie. Mexican artist Gabriel Dawe spins a yarn with these exciting sculptures. Like this: Like Loading... Quilling - Turning Paper Strips into Intricate Artworks Quilling has been around for hundreds of years, but it’s still as impressive and popular now as it was during the Renaissance. The art of quilling first became popular during the Renaissance, when nuns and monks would use it to roll gold-gilded paper and decorate religious objects, as an alternative to the expensive gold filigree. Later, during the 18th and 19th centuries, it became a favorite pass-time of English ladies who created wonderful decorations for their furniture and candles, through quilling. Basically, the quilling process consists of cutting strips of paper, and rolling them with a special tool. Because it requires so few supplies, quilling is available to anyone with enough patience to give it a try, and with a little bit of practice you’ll be creating some pretty amazing paper artworks, just like iron-maiden-art, whose works I think show the beauty of quilling. The most notable addition to the expansion is 139 works of art from the White House. The first lady's office announced the partnership yesterday in a press release. "The White House isn't simply a home to First Families or meeting space for world leaders, it's also known as 'The People's House,' a place that should be open to everyone. And that's why we've made it a priority to invite young people, military families, and Americans of all ages to join us here at the White House," first lady Michelle Obama said in a video announcing the White House's addition to the Google Art Project. Other notable collections come from high-profile landmarks, like the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the National Gallery in London, and the Palace of Versailles in France.
