Google Apps (GApps) for android Google’s Android OS has often been touted as open – this is true to a large extent. Android is based on a modified Linux kernel, with it’s own Java interpreter and libraries, and Google has released the majority of Android code to the world as the “Android Open Source Project” under the Apache license. What this means is that anybody can download the Android OS, install it on a device of their choosing, and run Android, without having to pay any costs to Google. However, there are a selection of proprietary Google Applications within Android which are not included within this distribution: these are only available to Google’s partners within the Open Handset Alliance (generally technology manufacturers who develop branded devices and work together to develop the platform). Just what are we talking about here? So how does this affect us? You are probably wondering at this stage, what is this Google Apps thing, and what does it affect? So how do we fix it? Good question.

Welcome Kitchen for Android ROMs ClockworkMod Recovery Complete Guide ClockworkMod, abbreviated as CWM, is a popular custom recovery for Android phones and tablets developed by Koushik Dutta (Koush) – a well-known name in the Android dev community. ClockworkMod recovery allows you to perform several advanced recovery, restoration, installation and maintenance operations on your Android device that aren’t possible with the stock recovery, and is one of the most common ways used to gain root access, back up device data, install custom ROMs, kernels, themes & mods, and more. However, for anyone new to Android customization and hacking, some of its options might prove to be a tad confusing. Here is what we shall be covering in this guide: Now let’s take a look at each of these topics in detail. Backup & Restore Android Apps Using ADB | JonWestfall.Com Android is an interesting platform for a number of reasons, one of which is it’s openness to developer and debugging tools, and the fact that it runs a modified form of Linux as an operating system. If you’re like me and quite fond of jumping around from ROM to ROM on your Android devices, a quick and easy way to backup your program files (and even settings) is quite desirable. Here’s my solution, hopefully it will help you. I know there are easier ways, but for a diehard geek who has the setup ready, this is the fastest way. First step: Install Android Debug Bridge (adb) adb is a tool found in the Android SDK, which you can download here. So how do you know you have adb installed and working? adb devices and you get back something that looks like this: List of devices attachedHT845GZ67642 device then it’s working. Second step: Backup the applications (and settings) Now that you have adb working, open a command line and make a new directory. adb pull /data/app adb pull /system/sd/app

The Perfect Hero Setup (New Market/Keyboard/Kernel) Thread updated 17/01/2011 (d/m/y) to include FlyKernel 12a and a download for AngryBirds 1.3.5 for those who needed it. thread has also been cleaned up and old content removed. Instructions have been updated accordingly. Please let me know of any bugs or tweaks that need to be made. Install for fully working Android Gingerbread Keyboard and newest Market at the bottom of this post! This is a collection of packages that can be found around these forums that I believe amounts to the perfect Hero Setup. If nothing else this should be treated as a learning experience, if however you are unsure, and the post below looks a little daunting, you should consider flashing Floyo (created by the very talented erasmux) which is a complete packaged ROM. I take no responsibility for you destroying your phone. 1) Flash Cyanogen Mod 6.1 FINAL in recovery (no need to reboot yet). 2) Flash Cyanogen Google Apps Addon. 3) Reboot your phone, log in and go through the initial setup. OK! 3) SMS Popup. 8) THEME!
