Spraypainted wheat pillows

Spraypainted wheat pillows
as seen last week on sytyc...here are my wheat pillows and the easy steps on how to make them! you will need:spray paint ( i had ivy leaf, and brown)freezer paper.muslinscissorspencil first cut some muslin. next trace your own drawn pattern (or you can download my pdf here)make as many of your stencil as you need next you are going to cut out your wheat. and for the stalks you just cut long skinny strips of freezer paper. place your stalks onto your muslin...SHINY SIDE DOWN! iron on your freezer paper. next get your "wheat" part and place it on top of your stalk(shiny side down)...not overlapping too much. iron the wheat down. get your spray paint can. and evenly distribute the paint.repeat if you have any area that needs a little more paint.do not over paint! once you let your paint fully dry, peel off your freezer paper. now you are ready to trim down your fabric to desired measurement so you can make your pillow!

Floating On Cloud9: Tutorial | Contoured Burp Cloths I’ve been planning some baby gifts lately and I must say, My Happy Nursery couldn’t've come at a better time! After doing a dry run on this simple and stylishly contoured burp cloth, I thought to share the project with you. I made these 4 in under an hour, so it’s a fast, practical but fun, last minute project, too. You can get 2 burp cloth faces out of a fat quarter (18″h x 22″w), which makes it economical if you made two of the same print per set- or even two sets of assorted patterns. The pattern piece can be downloaded here. You will need to cut out the spacer piece and tape it to the bottom (straight) edge of the pattern.

Tutorial: Lunch Bag Thank you for encouraging me to write up a tute on this lunch (bento box) bag! I really like this bag pattern because this bag, measuring approximately 9"(width) x 7 1/2"(hight w/o handles) x 5 1/2" (depth), can be used not only for bento boxes of any kind but also for carrying little crafty projects like yarn + needles. It has a cover inside that can give nice privacy for whatever in there and the cover can also prevent it from getting dusty in a windy day. As usual, I have tons of images to share each step with you, so bare with me! We'll need these pieces of fabric, I think the best type of fabric to be used for the outer bag, rim and outer handles are duck fabric, but if you'd rather use pretty quilting-weight cotton fabric like I do, remember to also get 1/2 yard of sturdy fusible interfacing like Pellon 809 Decor Bond. As usual, all the measurement includes 1/4" seam allowances unless otherwise noted. Then press seam open. I am fusing it onto the wrong side of the outer bag piece.

Turn a Onesie into a Bubble Dress It’s that time again. I’ve been digging through my kiddos’ drawers and finding the “too small” items that need to be weeded out and then deciding what needs to be donated and what can be………….salvaged. And well, babies always seem to have plenty of onesies that get a little snug in the length but still fit in the top. So why not give them a few more months of use and adjust them just a bit. Here’s one idea that I used for my little girl: Making a little Bubble Dress doesn’t get any easier than this. There’s something about that little bubble layer on the bottom that adds more fulness but also looks so clean and polished. And because I don’t do well leaving things alone, I added a little flower up top. I think she likes it. You could use knit or a woven cotton for this but I used knit. So it’s still a great dress for playing in. Would you like to make a quick little Bubble Dress out of a Onesie?? Grab a onesie from your baby’s drawer. Then, add a flower if you’d like. And that’s it.

Full and Fluffy Pettiskirt I used to love to dance around in skirts as a young girl. And I always wanted a pettiskirt. My childhood friend had one, and we would wear it, then trade, then dance, then trade, etc. What a pain…….but I loved that thing. And wished it was mine. So making my little girl her own, was kind of like fulfilling that childhood dream of having a full and fluffy pettiskirt, all my own. What could be better? All of the ruffles, all of the layers………they will bounce right along with your free-spirited little girl. With all those soft layers, girls of all ages are bound to feel happy and free…. Made my heart so happy to watch this little lady enjoying the fullness and fluff, every bit as much as I did so many years ago. Would you like to make one too? I found a video on Martha Stewart here a while ago, where a guest came on and showed how to make her pettiskirts. I wish she had more time to share….but such are TV segments. Now, lay your ruffle down next to one of your 360 inch long layers. That’s it.

Friendship Treats for Furry Friends #readforgood - Inspiration Laboratories It’s week 2 of the MeMeTales Readathon! This week’s theme is Friendship. There are 3 new books to borrow for the week at MeMeTales: StickFiggy Makes a Friend, Lott’s Tea Party, and Arthur. All three are great reads. Arthur is about a dog who desperately wants a forever home. The story illustrates the importance of being yourself instead of trying to get others to like you by being something you’re not. How to be a good friend is an important skill for children {and adults} to have. What are some attributes of a good friend? A good friend is kind.A good friend shares.A good friend takes turns.A good friend encourages.A good friend helps.A good friend plays fairly.A good friend likes you for who you are. Meet Anea – a nine year old shepard mix. No Bake Dog Treats I found a recipe at the Dog Treat Kitchen that didn’t require turning the oven on. Aiden helped mix together the milk, peanut butter, and oats. There are lots of other friendship activities linked up at MeMeTales. Linking up here.

Travel Accessories: Plenty of Pockets Tote When you're on the road, doesn't it always seems to be the ordinary, everyday things you are suddenly in desperate need of: gum, nail clippers, your headphones? I get a little panicky, certain I've left behind the most obvious items... as if perhaps I'm on an arctic expedition and won't see civilization for days. But the opportunity for replenishment doesn't matter; I want my stuff close at hand. Our Travel Accessories series is sponsored by Free Spirit Fabrics, as part of our Artist Trio Series introducing Anna Maria Horner's beautiful new Loulouthi fabric collection. We recommend using a twin or double needle to do the decorative stitching on this project. The finished size of the tote is approximately 12½" tall x 11½" wide. Sew the 1½" button to the tote opposite the button loop. Contributors Project Design: Alicia Thommas Sample Creation and Instructional Outline: Michele Mishler Other machines suitable for this project include the Elna 5200 and the Bernina aurora 440QE. renske’s minimalist tote bag A talented seamstress with a mission, Renske Solkesz decided to create her own wardrobe after finding herself frustrated with high fashion prices. When we saw her chic and modern wardrobe creations, we asked if she’d be willing to create and share a fun accessory tutorial with us. I’m super excited about what she’s come up with: an amazing self-closing utilitarian tote! I’m a huge fan of the graphic contrast and the leather and rivet details. CLICK HERE for the full how-to after the jump! When I designed this bag, I wanted to integrate the grip/straps in a more functional way with the rest of the bag. A friend of mine called it a “yin yang bag,” which is pretty accurate, I think. Adorable DIY Ear Warmers How gorgeous are these ear warmers?? I love all the different styles you can make from one tute as well. When I spied these on Delia Creates I just had to beg Delia to share the DIY with you, and lucky us, she agreed! Take it away Delia: With autumn here and winter right around the corner, it is the perfect time to make these easy ear warmers! For this one I added some pleats up the side and added some flowers. For this one I used a sleeve off an old thermal knit shirt. And this one is fleece with a matching knit fabric sewn over it and a nice pretty recycled knit bow. You’re so excited now right? And remember to leave Delia a comment, because this week’s favorite commenter wins those gorgeous embroidery patterns pictured up on the left! DIY Ear Warmers The idea is pretty simple. Taper the ends to an ending width of about 1 1/2 inches wide. Add pleats if you so desire. Fold the sides under and sew. Add a button hole and a button at the ends. Embellish to your hearts delight. All done.
