My Marrakesh

My Marrakesh
When architect Chris and I were designing and building Peacock Pavilions, we knew that we wanted it to be a place that was very personal and intimate. We wanted it to feel not like a hotel at all but rather like staying at a {stylish} friend's house in Marrakesh. The idea was for guests to be surrounded with unusual objects, with one-of-a-kind textiles and of course, with lots of texture and pattern. Not luxurious in that cold way but rather, charming, special, and "worth it" because of the warm feeling that it gave you. In that vein, my hope has always been that Peacock Pavilions would have a legacy. It all goes by so fast, doesn't it, this life of ours? I thought I'd share a few images from the first photo spread from the Femina fashion shoot at Peacock Pavilions. Model Ingrid Wrisley is so sublime and photographer Helene Linsjo captured her so perfectly. PS The beautiful black wedding blanket with its night sky of sequins is for sale here at Red Thread Souk.

STUD FARM: October 2010 One trend that has emerged for SS11 is oriental-inspired clothing. While the look first became popular in Western society in the 1920s-30 - think opium dens, silks and lots of embellishment -the re-emergence of the trend can be linked to the industry's current penchant for 90s styles. Remember how big the look was back then, the Chinese silk-wrap dresses with the distinct neckline, and Japanese Kimonos? The necklines are back, the silks and the embellishments, but the trend is much more mordernised. Rodarte Rodarte was informed by oriental styles and cuts but that was it. Celine Celine kept the look minimal. Luis Vuitton Luis Vuitton, under the guidance of Marc Jacobs, was the most faithful to the look, really striving for the opulent opium house style.
