It is a reason to worry that only 30-35 % of students in EU countries are digitally confident (Champoux, 2007; Garben, 2012). Enhancing the student digital experience: a strategic approach “The student experience is inherently digital. It is up to us whether we play an active role in shaping that experience or not.As educators we can support positive digital practices - those critical, thoughtful, professional and scholarly uses of technology that we know give learners the best chance of success.Or we can leave them to their own devices, which I believe has many risks for their learning and for our relevance as educators in the modern world.”Helen Beetham, consultant in higher education Use digital technologies to establish online relationships For many students the relationship with an institution begins online – the quality of information and the experience during initial investigations and the responses to any queries will make an impression. Best Jobs: Here Are 7 New Cutting-Edge Jobs for 2017 A single job can serve as a watermark for an entire time period. Where would the Renaissance be without its artists? Or the Industrial Revolution without its coal miners? What says “World War II” better than Rosie the Riveter? Here is how we will improve digital skills and create more jobs in Europe This week is European Get Online Week (GOW), a campaign aimed to engage and empower people to use technology and the Internet with confidence and acquire digital skills. #GOW15 will see the involvement of 25 countries and directly target more than 50,000 Europeans. I take this opportunity to summarize our actions and targets with regards to boosting digital skills and jobs in Europe. For everyone a natural consequence of technological innovation is the quest for new types of skills. Yet skills development does not come about as fast as technological development, which is why we are faced with a paradoxical situation: although almost 24 million Europeans are currently without a job companies have a hard time finding skilled digital technology experts. As a result, there could be up to 825,000 unfilled vacancies for ICT (Information and Communications technology) professionals by 2020.
