renske’s minimalist tote bag A talented seamstress with a mission, Renske Solkesz decided to create her own wardrobe after finding herself frustrated with high fashion prices. When we saw her chic and modern wardrobe creations, we asked if she’d be willing to create and share a fun accessory tutorial with us. I’m super excited about what she’s come up with: an amazing self-closing utilitarian tote! I’m a huge fan of the graphic contrast and the leather and rivet details. Like her fashion designs, this tote is made from inexpensive materials, yet looks totally luxe. I’m halfway out the door to the fabric store already! CLICK HERE for the full how-to after the jump! When I designed this bag, I wanted to integrate the grip/straps in a more functional way with the rest of the bag. A friend of mine called it a “yin yang bag,” which is pretty accurate, I think. Feminine Cloth Pad Tutorial Each February, our church participates in a short-term mission trip to Haiti with Mission Possible. The purpose of this outreach is to share the love of God and help the poor through education. One area of the outreach includes educating girls about their menstrual cycles and proper body care. Girls are provided Feminine Hygiene kits that contain supplies to use during their monthly cycle. This simple kit will not only improve her health, but will also enable her to remain in school 45 more days per year where she can continue to learn. Education is the key to providing hope. Along with basic hygiene information, each kit contains 2 bars of soap, 3 pair of underwear, 100 ibubrofen tablets, 5 safety pins, and 10 cloth sanitary pads. How you can help Last year 5,000 sanitary pads were donated for this project, and the hope is to expand the outreach to more girls in the future. The following tutorial was written to assist those who want to join our efforts. Feminine Cloth Pad Tutorial

Cloth pads Apparently the average woman will use around 17,000 pads or tampons in her lifetime, the majority of which are flushed down the toilet, a terrible though huh? Just imagine the waste they produce, damage they cause and the money they cost us.After having my second child i breastfed until she was around 15 months old therefore i didn't menstruate, it was great. Soon after i weaned her from the boob my cycle returned, ugh, i started using tampons again and i hate them. So, i have stared to make my own cloth pads and am looking into ordering a menstrual cup.I have put together a step by step of how i make my own cloth pads, i will add the pattern to the sidebar in the next few days. Mama Cloth Panty Liner Tutorial and Pattern I finally made the change to mama cloth! I will never go back again to 'sposies'. The mama cloth panty liners are so soft, comfortable and breathable. Really it doesn't feel like I'm wearing anything but underwear! I dare you just to make one to try out and see what you think. Did you know that mama cloth is so much healthier for you? I looked at several patterns, but ended up designing my own (I'm picky about size ;-). I used all scraps I had on hand for my panty liners. You will need a cotton print for the 'wrapper' part of the liner, a cotton inner (I used an old t-shirt), a cotton topper (I used scrap thin white broadcloth) and of course your pattern. Cut 2 of the print wrapper, 1 of the cotton inner and 1 of the cotton topper. Pin right sides together of the print wrapper and then the inner and outer layers. Sew both sets together while leaving an opening to turn right side out. Tuck in raw edges of the opening on the print wrapper and then top stitch around the wrapper.

Macaron Coin Purse Just can’t help for not sewing these sweet little macaron coin purses when one of Craft Passion’s Facebook fans showed them to me. Thanks to XYZZhandmade for her inspiring handmade and some tutorial links in Japanese, this, this, this and this. No, I can’t read Japanese but I can guess from the pictures on how to sew it. The space inside the coin purse is quite limited but good enough to place some small jewelries like ear rings, rings; may be to keep some small coins, folded money; a place to keep small piece of note that wrote your shopping list and reminder etc. I have tried both nylon and metal zipper, each gave different feel and effect on the macaron coin purse.

Homemade Cloth Pads – Free Cloth Pads Pattern – Mama Cloth Stop! I see you there trying to run away from this post! Before you go in terror at least hear me out. About a year ago I first heard about cloth pads. My first reaction was, YUCK! Why would you want to have to deal with such a thing? Cloth pads(or at least the ones you should be buying!) Those reasons were too good for me not to give it a try. But then I got really brave and decided it was time to make my own. Supplies you need: Flannel (not very much, at least ¼ yard in 2 colors will make you a couple pads)Sewing machineThreadMeasuring TapeScissorsCloth Pad Liner Pattern First you will need to trace around your pattern on the fabric. Cut out two of each of the patterns. Turn the fabric inside out and sew the liner around the edges. Snip a hole in one side of both the wings and the pad. Use this to turn the fabric right side out. Make sure to put the sides with the holes together so you won’t be able to see them in the finished pad. Sew the pad onto the wings. That’s all there is to it!

Simply Smashing Penny Jewelry You will be delighted to know that both the smaller ovals and the more ornate frame fit a smashed penny perfectly. Yep. Commence rejoicing, craft geeks, 'cuz this is where the fun starts!! (Plus, no drilling required!) The easiest method uses the plain oval frame: 1) Center penny in frame 2) Glue 3) Voila! I've actually had this penny since I was a JC skipper, so it means a lot to me. If you're going to do a similar design to this, I highly recommend getting a second penny oval and putting the two back to back. Now, for the more ornate frame, we have to add a few steps: 1) Using the piece of clear plastic that comes in the frame as a guide, trace the oval onto your penny: You'll need a fine-tipped Sharpie or other marker to trace onto the coin. 2) Next, using flat-nosed nippers (see above photo) CAREFULLY snip off the excess metal. Sorry - I was just distracted by a mental image of angry toenails with wings. 3) Ok, next, carefully pry off the back of the metal frame with a screwdriver: Tada!
