Because you can't have too many tutus. Liz and I are busily sewing our brains out to share our fall “look book” collections in a week or so. But, in the meantime, we do have a few projects that have been sitting on the back shelves. I am currently three outfits down and three to go, with bits and pieces in between like blind-stitch hemming (I don’t know why but I dislike blind-stitch hemming, so I always leave it until the end, even with the nifty foot– I am weird.) But I am totally stuck at finding a girls’ navy blue skinny belt for one of my dresses…..anyone seen lately? In other news, enjoy a quick and easy project…..from this summer that I never posted. We had a seventh birthday party around here a month or so ago. I wish I were great about big elaborate parties…..but I am not. We did do one simple crafts for all of our little dollies: American Girl Doll Tutus. (I kind of feel silly even writing a tutorial for this….but I did…..because I am lame.) Supplies: And here’s what you do… ~Elizabeth

How To Build Stone Walls We always want to hear how you have improved or changed our projects. Here's a great idea for the Stone Wall. Howard shows how he used one of the basic ideas here to produce a very simple, useable wall. Thanks, Scary Guy! Check out Howard Kennedy's version of Stone Walls! The Cheap Stone Wall (pt. 1) Here's a great way to build durable, inexpensive rock or brick walls for caverns or dungeons (my favorite places). Materials: Wall base (plywood, styrofoam or sheetrock panels with framing support) Sheetrock/gypsum board joint compound (in the 5gal bucket) Paint (1-2gal. The Process: Decide on what finish you want up front - this determines the form you buy (brick or stone) and the colors of paint you will buy: black and white paint for a rock finish; red, white, and black paint for a brick finish. A pic of a Crypt facade that I'm building Stone Finsh I'll talk about the stone finish first: Using the Concrete Form to press the stones into the joint compound Brick Finish Now, for a brick finish:

Blisstree Halloween 2012 | Halloween.com Quiet Slumber - Creepy Music Box Values: where tech and handmade converge The tools will change. Your values can stay the same. Tweet this! A friend of mine recently said this at a tech conference talk, but I think it’s applicable in so many places. Things change. The stock market goes up and down. In fact, the whole talk reminded me of the handmade community, specifically the conversations happening over at Oh My! This conference was about a specific technology, Ruby, but, like most things, being a Ruby software developer is really more mixed-media than any one particular craft. We are a community. Ruby programmers, just like indie crafters, are a community. Sharing Tech-wise, we’re all about Open Source. Elegance and beauty Does it seem strange to you that nerdy, pocket-protector engineers care about beauty and elegance? Having an impact You may have heard about Google’s motto: Don’t be evil. Fundamentally, both tech and handmade have had to reconcile the need for money and the need to make and be creative. Your customers see your authenticity and values.

Halloween Music (Free Download) DIY Chan Luu Bracelet My goal this holiday season was to really try my best to make some homemade gifts. So far I’m doing pretty well with my wreath, some burlap covered candles, some personalized coasters and this past weekend I gave a try at some jewelry. You may have noticed how wrap bracelets are everywhere lately. Chan Luu bracelets are extremely popular these days. They come in singles and also in wraps. I love love the look of these bracelets. I did the top bracelet by simply following this tutorial. 1. 2.Bring your needle up under the right cord through the center and pull the thread through. 3. 4. You will just continue to do this for every bead. I love my followers so come and join!! Like this: Like Loading... Silent Horror Films People have been making movies for as long as motion pictures have existed, even before they could enhance the scares with sound. Silent cinema was a surprisingly fertile place for terrifying filmmaking, and today the odd frame rates and grainy celluloid make the scares seem fresh decades after the films first appeared. From vampires to phantoms to golems, here—for the seventh in our series of 31 Days of Halloween features—are some of the greatest creepfests of the silent age. The Haunted Castle (1896) Widely considered to be the first horror film ever made, this three-minute movie from legendary cinema pioneer Georges Melies is basically just a vignette in which Mephistopheles (played by Melies himself) terrorizes a castle courtyard with a number of devilish tricks. Frankenstein (1910) Though the Boris Karloff version is the most iconic film adaptation of Mary Shelley's novel, this little silent picture has the distinction of being the first. Dr. The Cabinet of Dr. Nosferatu (1922)
