Why Preserve Books? The New Physical Archive of the Internet Archive by Brewster Kahle, June 2011 Press on this: NYtimes Books are being thrown away, or sometimes packed away, as digitized versions become more available. This is an important time to plan carefully for there is much at stake. Digital technologies are changing both how library materials are accessed and increasingly how library materials are preserved. After the Internet Archive digitizes a book from a library in order to provide free public access to people world-wide, these books go back on the shelves of the library. We noticed an increasing number of books from these libraries moving books to “off site repositories” (1 2 3 4) to make space in central buildings for more meeting spaces and work spaces. Two of the corporations involved in major book scanning have sawed off the bindings of modern books to speed the digitizing process. There is also a connection between digitized collections and physical collections. The goal is to preserve one copy of every published work.
40 technologies to watch in 2011 If the popular misreading of Mayan mythology is correct, we have fewer than two more years left on this Earth. Big Internet Guide Online Library - download and read ebooks for free 100 Things Personality Test - VisualDNA VisualDNA brings a new layer of information to the world of technology that will help bring it closer to the people who use it – making it more enjoyable and relevant. Technology provides businesses with a surfeit of DATA – what and when. However it provides very little in the way of UNDERSTANDING – who did things, and why they did them. We see this effect in all areas of business from marketing to financial services. Despite all the targeting and site metrics, digital marketing isn’t getting any more effective. And despite all the data gathering there’s a limit to what credit histories can tell financial services about customers and potential customers. We have a different approach. In the financial sector this approach has led to a five-fold increase in ROI, in media we have seen 35% improvement in click rates. Watch a short video about VisualDNA. Zodiac The twelve Zodiac signs are the twelve universal energies or spirits of this universe(some say omniverse). They give life or essence to our reality and are the forces behind all material manifestation. Each of the twelve signs contain or encapsulate a group of principles necessary for the functioning of life. These principles take form or expression through or via the physical planets which in turn influence the physical and spiritual centers(chakras and glands) of all life forms on those planets. Why twelve signs, and not eight or fifty? Because this is the universally agreed upon number for this time and/or creation. The most important zodiacs are 4 and its square(4,16,64,256,1024,etc). All of the twelve numbers and/or signs work together supporting and elucidating one another's meanings.
