MoMA Adds Video Games to Its Collection Brendan Hoffman for The New York TimesPac-Man was included in an exhibition at the Smithsonian American Art Museum earlier this year. If you have been disparaging video games – or, perhaps, trying to wean yourself from an addiction to them – it’s time to think again. Video games are now high culture, with the imprimatur of the Museum of Modern Art, which announced on Thursday that it has acquired the first 14 titles in a planned collection of about 40 games. These constitute a new category among the museum’s collections, and will be on display in the Philip Johnson Galleries starting in March. (An exhibition devoted to video games will open in December at the Museum of the Moving Image, and another exhibition, at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, closed in September.) “Are video games art?” The games, Ms. The museum’s wish list for future acquisitions runs from the early Spacewar!

Curatorial Method Curatorial Method "Zines and Do-It-Yourself Democracy" at the Knight Library was curated by a group of undergraduate and graduate zinesters in partnership with Doug Blandy and Robert Voelker-Morris. The curatorial method was first implemented by Doug Blandy and Kristin G. Congdon in 1987 at a Bowling Green State University exhibit "Boats, Bait, and Fishing Paraphernalia: A Local Folk Aesthetic" and is based heavily in folklore field work methods (1988). This curatorial method facilitates non-hierarchical relationships among exhibition participants (object makers, object holders, exhibition facilitators, exhibition designers, etc.). This model is based on pedagogical guidelines from Paulo Freire (1970, 1981) that focus on building non hierarchical and cooperative relationships among people, methods for critical inquiry, the importance of forging a common language, and a conception of culture that is dynamic. 1. 2. 3. 4. PIXINESS - Oeuvre d’art lumineuse, numérique et interactive à échelle urbaine par Axel Morgenthaler Dimensions: May/June 2001 By Leonard J. Aube The California Science Center in Los Angeles (formerly the California Museum of Science and Industry) is an institution undergoing major reinvention and expansion. Like many institutions involved in lengthy and intense capital campaigns, we focused in Phase I on achieving our capital goal ($130 million), but gave the operating fund considerably less attention. Fortunately, we now have the opportunity to capture what we learned from Phase I and apply it to phases II and III. Anecdotes about transitions could easily fill this publication. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Equally important is a strategy for retaining staff beyond the first year. 9. Beautiful trims, ribbons and lace is fun to use when you’re crafting, sewing or wrapping gifts. As so often before I found the solution via an image on Pinterest. TicTac-tabletterna hällde jag över i en större burk som jag piffade till med lite washi tejp (inget får förbli opyntat, det förstår ni va?). /I poured the TicTac tablets into a large jar and pimped the jar with some washi tape (nothing may remain unembellished, you get that right?). Resultatet blev både fint och överskådligt, tycker jag.
