Interactive Fabrication » Fabricate Yourself
Fabricate Yourself is a project that documented the Tangible, Embedded and Embodied Interaction Conference. Usually we think of documentation in terms of text, photography and video, but given the tangible theme of the conference we decided to engage the community by capturing and fabricating small 3D models of attendees. This enabled us to build a tangible model of the event and fabricate it piece by piece during the conference. Attendees firstly capture their favorite pose using a Microsoft Kinect. Dovetail joints are automatically added to the side of the models so they can be snapped together. The STL files were printed using a Dimension uPrint 3D printer kindly provided by Stratasys. Below you can see the models packed on to the 3D printing base. As we wanted to be able to fabricate a large number of models, we kept the size of the pieces down to approximately 3x3cm. To print at the 3x3cm size we only needed to use one quarter of the full Kinect resolution. Created by Karl D.D.

The objects would be composed of millions or even billions of small physical building blocks (voxels). Some building blocks could be hard, some could be soft. Some could be red, others green or blue. Some could be conductive and others could perform computation or store energy. Overview In the digital domain, a 3D object is composed of repeating, fundamental building blocks known as voxels. Digital Fabrication: Voxels of multiple materials are autonomously assembled Digital manufacturing is inspired from biology, where DNA, amino acids, and proteins all illustrate systems where a digital structure is formed from a discreet number of aligned, fundamental building blocks. Hardware The voxjet has been used to demonstrate fully recyclable multi-material 3D printing. Digital Material Properties Publications

description of project - irishvernacular.com There are a number of ways of describing this project - it could be described practically, philosophically, politically or architecturally. This website is meant to be used by a variety of people and I will examine the project in different ways. I imagine it will mean different things to different audiences. A Practical Description This is an extremely economic house to build. I found myself without a lot of money and urgently requiring somewhere to live. I used my experience of modular building methods learnt from contemporary building practice, from a wonderful self-building pioneer Walter Segal, and from the rural vernacular tradition of building your house instead of going and buying it. In the end I had the house complete over a period of two years, I was on site for a total of fifty days during that period, and kept within my budget. A Political Description We have been duped. A Philosophical Description The notion of the Commons in a society is important to me. A few hints

Building Your WordPress Website with iPad in Mind Last week I looked at how you can build a WordPress website on your iPad. This week I am doing it the other way. How can you make your website look good on an iPad? Arguably, I could be looking at all sorts of tablets. Data from business insider In fact, the iPad has become so popular that it the number of iPad users now surpasses the number of Linux users. Source: Pingdom This is extremely impressive for a device that has only been around for just over a year and it’s likely that we’ll see the iPad’s dominance strengthen. Last year I took a look at how you could get your WordPress website looking great on an iPhone, now it’s time to take a look at how you can get it looking fantastic on an iPad. iPad users interact with their devices quite differently to how desktop and laptop users interact with theirs. Onswipe When it comes to the Native Apps vs Web Apps debate in relation to content delivery I’m firmly on the side of web apps. Onswipe Features Responsive Themes Yes! Not great, right?
