Hablamos de esas personas de las que los profesionales quieren aprender, las admiran y las tienen como modelos de referencia. En el caso de la asistencia sanitaria nos referimos a los profesionales que consiguen progresos importantes en la clínica, avalados, por supuesto, por estudios científicos. Estos profesionales son conocidos por el pleno de la profesión, los cuales siguen interesados las mejoras asistenciales que van logrando. Pero, además, tienen su hueco en múltiples ocasiones en los medios de comunicación, mejorando notablemente la valoración subjetiva de la población de la importancia de su trabajo y de su valía profesional. Sin embargo, una pregunta acecha en demasiadas ocasiones a los enfermeros. Alguno habrá, aunque no lo conozcamos todos. ¿Es un sueño?

Allowing patients direct access to lab test reports is an appropriate and much-needed step toward equipping them to access, understand and act on their own health data. My work with Project HealthDesign has shown me that individuals are ready for an era of data-driven health care. However, I also recognize that changing the flow of information is going to change the clinical conversation. This comment was submitted to HHS in response to a proposed rule that would allow patients direct access to their lab test reports. El silencio era absoluto. Suspiró profundamente intentando controlar su cuerpo, pero fue en vano. Cerró los ojos y recordó... Tres años hacía ya que comenzó todo. Daba igual que te resistieras; el resorte estaba definitivamente roto. En un aciago día, tras meses de negar lo evidente, te ves ingresado en una cama de hospital, las fuerzas agotadas, cien mil cables saliendo y entrando por tu cuerpo, un cuerpo que ya no te pertenece, que ya no funciona como debe. Tus riñones ya no funcionan. Se te concede una tregua de meses antes de empezar la hemodiálisis, meses en los que la dieta se reduce hasta los límites de la malnutrición. Aprendes a vivir. Por fin, el llanto cedió.
