This Is Luck This Is Luck Look at the top picture and you can see where this guy broke through the crash barrier (right side where the people are standing on the road). His truck left the road, traveling from right to left. He flipped end-over-end, across the culvert outlet and landed on the left side of it. Now look at the picture below. The Saga of Biôrn Biôrn, an old Viking, is determined to reach Valhalla, the warrior’s afterlife full of excessive drinking and debauchery. To gain entry he has to die honorably in battle, but he discovers that the right death isn’t so easy. A fantastic short film with top-notch art direction, animation and sound design. The ending is great, too. We have Benjamin J. Kousholt, Daniel D. [ The Saga of Biôrn ]

One man, 100,000 toothpicks, and 35 years Thirty five years ago I had yet to be born, but artist Scott Weaver had already begun work on this insanely complex kinetic sculpture, Rolling through the Bay, that he continues to modify and expand even today. The elaborate sculpture is comprised of multiple “tours” that move pingpong balls through neighborhoods, historical locations, and iconic symbols of San Francisco, all recreated with a little glue, some toothpicks, and an incredible amount of ingenuity. He admits in the video that there are several toothpick sculptures even larger than his, but none has the unique kinetic components he’s constructed. Via his website Weaver estimates he’s spent over 3,000 hours on the project, and the toothpicks have been sourced from around the world: I have used different brands of toothpicks depending on what I am building. See the sculpture for yourself at the Tinkering Studio through the end of June.

Here's Why the Banksy Movie Is a Banksy Prank In the summer of 2008, I saw an article in the LA Weekly about a massive street art show mounting in L.A. named Life is Beautiful. On the outset the show seemed ambitiously cool. The 125,000-square-foot show was being staged in CBS' abandoned Columbia Square Studios, a massive modern office complex where I Love Lucy was filmed. The artist, Mr. But something here seemed off. The whole thing, it's clear now, was an intricate prank being pulled on all of us by Banksy, who has never publicly revealed his identity, with Fairey as his accomplice. The new "documentary" Exit Through the Gift Shop, "directed" by Banksy, and "co-directed" by Shepard Fairey, takes that prank one step further. Ostensibly, Mr. Guetta is the biggest give-away here. Which leads me to the other problem. Additionally, we're spoonfed bizarre, effusive comments in the film about how famous Mr. As a straight documentary, this film is a snoozefest, an artist's love note to himself written in spray paint on a public wall.

Lackadaisy Expressions Boy, I didn't know what I was getting myself into when I started this. I've had requests for some sort of expressions tutorial dating back a while now, so I figured, "Sure! I can explain expression drawing...and it'll be way better than all those tutorials out there that are nothing but charts of generic expressions. Yeah! Just give me a day or two to whip something up..." Um. Anyway, I found all I could really do was try to explain ways to teach yourself...and then add some pictures. The Creators Project | James Powderly The Creators Project: So, James, how do you define your job? It seems to defy categorization. James Powderly: I guess I’m a designer, somewhere between an artist and an engineer. It sounds like you have a dream gig, but where do you get the funds to realize these types of projects? Evan Roth [another member of the EyeWriter team] and I began working together because we secured an art residency in New York City at a place called Eyebeam. What do you mean by “fake”? Well, we actually don’t have a physical lab in a specific location; we just have the website. How did someone with your skill set choose creating artistic technology instead of making weapons or equally menacing objects? I think it’s safe to say that when you reach a certain amount of technical capability you can make whatever you envision. Can you briefly explain how the EyeWriter works? Basically there’s a camera pointed at the user’s eye.
