One Year Ago: Cookie Dough Topped BrowniesTwo Years Ago: The Best French Bread Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cheesecake Note: this cheesecake, like any good, baked cheesecake, tastes best after being refrigerated overnight. Specifically, cookbooks created by New England civic organizations between 1950 and 1980 for fundraising purposes. With yard sale season in full swing, I find myself solvent with new recipe ideas, among them one I found in this vandalized and water-damaged collection. The picture on the cover somewhat suggests the architecture of Calvary Baptist Church in Easthampton, but I bought the book in Millbury and it has no date (I’ve never been to that Church, I just tried to do some due diligence in my googling). And hey, no cake flour or fancy measuring required, because we’re using cake mix. I let my ice cream soften by scooping it up into small chunks and letting it sit a few minutes. The recipe calls for greasing & flouring a tube pan. After 4 minutes of beating, the batter kinda just looks like . . . well, melted ice cream. She was right. Preheat oven to 350o.

freutcake Chocolate Cake Ever! This is really the best, most moist, most rich, most chocolatiest cake I’ve ever made. I know there are other chocolate cakes out there that claim to be the best. Folks, let me tell you, I’ve tried them. Are you ready? Here’s your ingredients for the cake. You know what the best part about this cake is? All you do is dump everything except the chocolate chips into a very large bowl– A 4 qt bowl or larger is perfect, but be warned, one of those 8 cup mixing bowls is too small. Then stir in 2 cups of chocolate chips– pictured here are regular sized chocolate chips. Now, pour your batter into your cake pan of choice. I like to bake my cakes in two, 9-inch pie pans. Oh man… It’s so hard to not just rip into right now while it’s warm and fresh out of the oven… But wait! While it’s cooling, we’ll make The Best Buttercream Frosting Ever. Here are your ingredients for the frosting. In a mixing bowl, cream the shortening until fluffy. This rather large piece of cake did not last very long.

The Way the Cookie Crumbles & Blog Archive & chocolate chip cookie comparison Everyone is always talking about what the best chocolate chip cookie recipe is. Last year, it seemed like everyone was making the Best Big Fat Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie. A few months ago, Cooks Illustrated’s Thick and Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie was all the rage. These days, people are testing out the New York Times recommendation to chill the dough for 36 hours before baking. Until recently, I stayed out of this discussion. But eventually, curiosity got the best of me. Because, let’s face it, just about all chocolate chip cookies are good (and certainly the ones I was making would be), Dave and I decided we would need to do side-by-side comparisons to discern differences between the recipes. I wanted to publish this entry with conclusive results. But I just don’t think it’s going to happen. Regarding the overnight rest – it certainly doesn’t hurt, and I find it pretty convenient actually. My favorite was Alton Brown’s The Chewy. We were also very fond of the New York Times recipe.

Oreo Cupcakes They are probably the best Oreo cakes I have ever tried. A lot of cake's that I have experimented with before are like a vanilla cake with bits of Oreo in them, which didn't really give them enough Oreo flavor. But these were a lot better. I used a dark chocolate fudge cake mix instead of just a regular chocolate cake mix, which went really well with the cookies and gave the cakes just a little more flavor. Ingredients 1 package Oreo Cookies, regular size 1 package Mini Oreo Cookies, for decoration (optional) 1 package chocolate cake mix (mix according to directions on box) 8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature 1/2 cup butter (1 stick), room temperature 3 3/4 cups powdered sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract cupcake liners Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream together butter and cream cheese. foodsnots.com

Apple Toffee Blondies with Brown Sugar Frosting Apple Toffee Blondies with Brown Sugar Frosting This past weekend Andrew and I went apple picking at Tanners Orchard. This was the first time we had been to this orchard and I was really impressed. If you don’t feel like picking your own apples, they have a large market where you can buy already picked apples, pumpkins and gourds. We came home with a peck of Jonagold apples, a gallon of apple cider and a few apple cider doughnuts. Besides eating them out of hand, I LOVE to bake with apples. Chewy blondies bursting with little chunks of apple and toffee bits are slathered with an incredible brown sugar frosting. Yield: 16 large brownies or 24 smaller brownies Ingredients: For the Apple Toffee Blondies: 2/3 cup butter, softened 2 cups packed light brown sugar 2 cups all-purpose flour 2 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 1 teaspoon cinnamon 2 eggs 2 tsp vanilla 1 cup peeled, cored, chopped tart apple, 1 large 1/2 cup toffee bits Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Brown Butter Double Fudge Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cookies Little bit of a mouthful there. But it’s like a cookie on top of another cookie! Yeah. Like total dirty cookie on cookie action. Except these ones down below wanted to try a few different positions. I dunno… they’re all mixed up. In order to solve a common I-want-a-chocolate-CHOCOLATE-cookie-but-he-wants-a-plain-chocolate chip-cookie dilemma that happens like, every single weekend here… I made both. Some of them smashed up against each other while others sat on top of each other but in the end, they all tasted… fantabulous. And then they tasted extra delicious after I spent two hours cleaning out the contents of our bar (take that as you will), after he spent three hours organizing the pantry (that was weird) and after we both needed to severely eat our emotions immediately post-Boardwalk Empire finale. WHAT was that. ??????? Why??? Then I tried to dunk a cookie in milk and failed. I need cookie dunking lessons, a redo on season 2 (thanks HBO), and a salad. [from giant rainbow cookies]
