Muse The nine muses—Clio, Thalia, Erato, Euterpe, Polyhymnia, Calliope, Terpsichore, Urania, Melpomene—on a Roman sarcophagus (2nd century AD, from the Louvre) The Muses, (Ancient Greek: Μοῦσαι, moũsai: perhaps from the o-grade of the Proto-Indo-European root *men- "think") in Greek mythology, poetry and literature, are the goddesses of the inspiration of literature, science and the arts. They were considered the source of the knowledge, related orally for centuries in the ancient culture, that was contained in poetic lyrics and myths. The Muses were both the embodiments and sponsors of performed metrical speech: mousike (hence the English term "music") was just "one of the arts of the Muses". Others included Science, Geography, Mathematics, Philosophy, and especially Art, Drama, and inspiration. Some authors invoke Muses when writing poetry, hymns or epic history. Origins Muse reading a scroll, perhaps Clio (Attic red-figure lekythos, Boeotia c. 435–425 BC) In myth O Muse!
- Living Bueno - How to Live Anywhere in the World for Free Skeptical Face Travel for free? This dudes crazy right? Today is part two of what I am calling the "Knowledgeable Nomads" series, in which I will be teaching my readers how they can travel the world while ballooning their savings accounts rather than draining them dry. Possibly the most common excuse I hear when urging others to travel and see the world, is the financial barrier that is separating them from partaking in such a journey. How To Live Anywhere in The World For Free By- Rick A. Letter from Franco, my host from my upcoming voyage to Sicily: "Rick, sounds good, I do have a couple of people here, what I could do is give you the country cottage and that way you can have the freedom to do your writing. would you be interested in that?" Franco For the next few months I will be living in a country cottage in Sicily a few hundred meters from the village of Sciacca. I was naturally skeptical and figured I'd come across a salesman promoting his own website in a clever way. 1.
Volume 6 Number 1 Autumn 1995 - spiritual uses of MDMA in traditional religion from the Newsletter of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies MAPS - Volume 6 Number 1 Autumn 1995 spiritual uses of MDMA in traditional religion Nicholas Saunders Nicholas Saunders 14 Neals Yard London WC2H 9DP England email@example.com Most spiritual teachers are strongly against the use of any drug. Some warn that drugs will undo years of hard-earned progress towards enlightenment, while others say that the drug-induced state may appear the same but is on a lower level, and that this can mislead people. A few believe that a true mystical state can be induced by drugs, but that its value is lessened. However, there are a number of teachers who do believe in the value of MDMA, both for their own personal enlightenment and for teaching others. I took Bertrand, the Rinzai Zen monk, to a rave party where he took some MDMA - previously he had only taken it while meditating. Interview with a Benedictine monk [I sent Br. Straight Dope Message Board - View Single Post - The horror of blimps Last week while travelling I stopped at a Zany Brainy store and saw that they had a blimp for sale. It's called Airship Earth, and it's a great big balloon with a map of the Earth on it, and two propellors hanging from the bottom. You blow up the balloon with helium put batteries in it, and you have a radio controll indoor blimp. I'd seen these things for sale in Sharper Image catalogs for $60-$75. At Zany Brainy it was on clearance for $15. What a deal! Last night my wife was playing tennis and it was just my daughter and I at home. Let me tell you, it's quite a blimp. We blew it up with the tank attacched the gondola with the propellors, and put in batteries. Then we balanced the blimp for neutral bouyancy with this putty that came with it, so it hangs in the air by itself neither rising nor falling. It was easy and fun, and then I blew up another balloon and made Mickey Mouse helium voices for my daughter. My three year old girl loved it. Let's face it, blimps are fun.

This is your place... a safe place... herbs and flowers are drying.. hanging from the ceiling and laid out to dry. their musky and aromatic scents fill the cave... oil burners gutter and splash their light onto the walls..
