Feats Prerequisites Some feats have prerequisites. Your character must have the indicated ability score, class feature, feat, skill, base attack bonus, or other quality designated in order to select or use that feat. A character can gain a feat at the same level at which he or she gains the prerequisite. A character can’t use a feat if he or she has lost a prerequisite. Types Of Feats Some feats are general, meaning that no special rules govern them as a group. Fighter Bonus Feats Any feat designated as a fighter feat can be selected as a fighter’s bonus feat. Fighter bonus feats include: Item Creation Feats An item creation feat lets a spellcaster create a magic item of a certain type. XP Cost Experience that the spellcaster would normally keep is expended when making a magic item. Raw Materials Cost The cost of creating a magic item equals one-half the sale cost of the item. How could the universe expand faster than the speed of light? That seems impossible! In science fiction universes, traveling the galaxy is a snap – just engage the “warp” or “hyperspeed” drive, and off you go, cruising the cosmos at several times the speed of light. But back in reality, we’ve all been taught that the speed of light is a strict traffic law that can’t be broken. This is true, but slightly misleading. Einstein’s theory of special relativity, first published in 1905, asserted that the speed of light is a constant (300 million meters per second), no matter who measures it. The speed of light affects us more than we realize – it helps us understand the difference between cause and effect. Now that we have a taste for Einstein’s theory, we know that baseballs don’t go faster than the speed of light. Right after the Big Bang, the universe had a monstrous growth-spurt called inflation. This ultra-fast growth seems to contradict what we’ve just discussed, but it makes sense if you understand the distinction between expansion and motion.

My parents bought me the magenta D&D boxed set back in 1982, along with the Player’s Handbook, Dungeon Master’s Guide, and Monster Manual. My lifelong passion for fantasy, science fiction, war games, and mythology was well-channeled through RPGs, and I credit playing D&D with helping me sustain my imagination and sense of wonder through adulthood. I played with one particular group through the bulk of my late teens and early 20s, and this series — along with the atmosphere tools that Black Phoenix Trading Post has introduced — was inspired, specifically, by the time that we spent campaigning together. Pen and paper role playing games are, to me, dynamic stories that are propelled by the active participation of many individuals.
