Time is More Valuable than Money

Time is More Valuable than Money
Most people look at their bank accounts with great attention and assess how much money they have to spend, to invest, and to give away… But, they don’t look at their time the same way, and end up wasting this incredibly valuable resource. In fact, time is much more valuable than money because you can use your time to make money, but you can’t use money to purchase more time. Time is the great equalizer… Each day has only 24 hours - nobody has any more than anyone else. When you look at someone who has accomplished a lot, you can be pretty sure that he or she has spent considerable amounts of time mastering the required skills, filling hours upon hours with hard work. People often say, “I don’t have the time to…” Fill in the blank with whatever you like: exercise, make dinner, write a book, start a company, run for political office. I teach a course on creativity and innovation at Stanford University. Another example is venture capitalist Fern Mandelbaum.

Red Rat Returns after 113 Years | Care2 Healthy & Green Living The red-crested tree rat had not been seen since 1898, when William McKinley was President of the United States, despite several organized searches–yet one appeared just this month in the El Dorado Nature Reserve in northern Columbia. (It is also called the Red Crested Soft-Furred Spiny-Rat.) Lizzie Noble, who was one of the volunteers who spotted and photographed the very rare red rodent said, “He just shuffled up the handrail near where we were sitting and seemed totally unperturbed by all the excitement he was causing. We are absolutely delighted to have rediscovered such a wonderful creature after just a month of volunteering with ProAves. Clearly the El Dorado Reserve has many more exciting discoveries waiting”. El Dorado Nature Reserve was established in 2005 by Fundacion ProAves which is Colombia’s foremost bird conservation organization. “The discovery marks the beginning of a major effort to save the red-crested tree rat. Avevi qualche contatto in loco? Però non sei rimasto a New York… Dopo tre mesi sarei dovuto tornare in Italia, ma mi son detto: no, ho assaggiato l’antipasto, adesso voglio il resto.

Stop Criticizing Your Body and Start Critiquing Our Culture's Devotion to Thinness In my last blog, I encouraged you to make a different kind of New Year's resolution. Instead of vowing to do whatever it takes to lose weight and "improve" your figure, how about committing to practicing peace with your body? In other words, why not make a conscious effort to accept, appreciate, nurture, and enjoy body you have? I borrowed the phrase, "practicing peace with your body," from my friend Cissy Brady-Rogers, who is a therapist specializing in the treatment of women with body image and eating problems. She coined the phrase to emphasize that making peace with your body is an ongoing process, rather than something you achieve once and for all. This journey begins when we wake up to the false promise our society has sold us, namely, that our happiness resides in the size of our bodies. Cultural criticism of the Religion of Thinness begins with the simple insight that women are not born wishing they were thinner. 1) What messages does this image give me about my body?

The Magic of Doing One Thing at a Time - Tony Schwartz by Tony Schwartz | 8:53 AM March 14, 2012 Why is it that between 25% and 50% of people report feeling overwhelmed or burned out at work? It’s not just the number of hours we’re working, but also the fact that we spend too many continuous hours juggling too many things at the same time. What we’ve lost, above all, are stopping points, finish lines and boundaries. Tell the truth: Do you answer email during conference calls (and sometimes even during calls with one other person)? The biggest cost — assuming you don’t crash — is to your productivity. But most insidiously, it’s because if you’re always doing something, you’re relentlessly burning down your available reservoir of energy over the course of every day, so you have less available with every passing hour. I know this from my own experience. If you’re a manager, here are three policies worth promoting: 1. 2. 3. It’s also up to individuals to set their own boundaries. 1. 2. 3.

Kratom is a new herbal remedy & tonic Silicon Valley is stupid (which is why it works) In the past year, I have met with startup founders and government officials around the world. Everywhere I go, people are hungry to know how they can be clever like Silicon Valley. They assume that since I founded PBworks, a private wiki host and home to over two million groups, I must have insight into the smarts that make the Valley work, and they want to implement those good ideas in their regions. But Silicon Valley works because it is stupid. Let’s start with the startups. Successful startups often begin with no idea at all. Okay, so startups are dumb, but what about governments? But what the U.S. government does do is get the heck out of our way. If government gave special aid to startups, it would need to ensure those startups were performing well, which would require startups to account for their progress or face punishment for wasting taxpayer money. Startups funded by a government cannot, politically, afford to fail. Peter Thiel was the first investor in Facebook.
