DIY: Contrast sleeves! My Version/Their Version I have been haunted by this cargo jacket (above right) with leather sleeves for some time now but I couldn’t remember the brand or price. So I was walking with Wes down Yonge street and I found it in the window of a boutique! File Folder Scrapbook By Debi Devitt I borrowed the idea for this file folder scrapbook from the homeschool community's lapbooks. Lapbooks are a learning book that are very popular with homeschool families. The idea is that the child enjoys a hands-on learning experience as they create and then later sit and go through all the intricate little elements in a lapbook. Learning is reinforced as the child shows off their lovely lapbook and enjoys looking through it himself. Well, I love all the intricate elements so much that I think these would make the most fun mini scrapbooks.

The Power of Buying Less by Buying Better According to a recent survey commissioned by the British charity Barnardo’s, a majority of women’s garments are worn a mere seven times before being pushed to the back of the closet or tossed into the garbage. Combatting this wastefulness is at the heart of a growing number of clothing brands offering alternatives to so-called “fast fashion,” the trendy, throwaway method of selling clothes pioneered by companies such as H&M, and the cultural force to blame for the world’s overflowing and underutilized closets. Among the other startups positioning themselves as durable and ethical alternatives to throwaway fads are the online retailers Zady, Cuyana, Of a Kind, Everlane, and The 30 Year Sweatshirt. Mainstream fashion’s bad behavior is arguably opening the door for these more ethically-minded companies to flourish. Tom Cridland, a 25-year-old British designer and entrepreneur, launched The 30 Year Sweatshirt last summer to call to task fashion’s built-in obsolescence. But maybe not.
Shes Crafty: Feather Hair Extensions I almost freaked out when my 10-year-old girl asked me if she could get red highlights. “But the other girls have it,” she pleaded. Honey, I’m sorry, but if I’m not getting highlights, then you sure ain’t either! (HoLy CoW, has it been that long??) During my first blogging summer, I checked out this book on 99 Ways to Cut, Sew, Tie & Rock Your Scarf from the libary and made this scarf shirt. (I guess scarves and I were just meant to be... now that I work at a scarf store. ;)) I've grown exponentially in my tripod+remote+outfit photos, so I figured it might be good to re-shoot the scarf shirt and do it some DIY justice. ;) It's a really simple project-- ANYONE with two scarves and a brain can do it. ;) Also, IT IS SPRING!?
how orthodox jewish modest wear is going high fashion Image courtesy Mimu Maxi Coogee Beach, Australia is one of many perfect, sun-blessed suburbs that fan out from the center of Sydney. It's the kind of neighborhood where it's hard to find a restaurant in which flip-flops aren't actively encouraged. And it was a weird place to grow up as an Orthodox Jew. Orthodox women usually dress conservatively, covering their collarbones, knees, and elbows according to the Torah's principle of tzniut, or modesty. For sisters Chaya Chanin and Simi Polonsky, whose father was an Orthodox rabbi in Coogee Beach, that meant they had to become resourceful dressers early on. Refurbished key portrait. - Mod Podge Rocks! My friend LollyChops is going to love this project – it uses shades of her most favorite color, TEAL! I found this sad little piece of key art, broken and golden, at Hobby Lobby. I’m sure it wasn’t supposed to be broken, and what likely happened is someone said “Do these keys come off?” and then tried it. Not that I’ve done that myself.
