I love old photos. I admit being a nosey photographer. As soon as I step into someone else’s house, I start sniffing for them. Most of us are fascinated by their retro look but to me, it’s imagining how people would feel and look like if they were to reenact them today… Two years ago, I decided to actually do this. The Brown Sisters Project
We present to you a project that has taken quite a prominent place in the history of photography. In 1975 Nicholas Nixon started photographing his wife Bebe and her three sisters every year, once a year. Always in the same order; Heather, Mimi, Bebe, Laurie. World’s Oldest Supermodel
As a woman, I know firsthand what it’s like to feel pressured by society to look a certain way in order to be considered beautiful. The interesting thing to me is that as teenage girls, we actually believe that our beauty is wrapped up in how we look. As adults, we know better. We know that beauty comes from within; however, the fascinating part about it is that even though we know that, we many times don’t feel comfortable in our own skin unless we conform to society’s image of beauty anyway. For me personally, I weigh the same thing now as I did in high school, but it took a year of practically starving myself to get there. Was it worth it? I love it when I can write an article that helps to break down the stereotypes and ridiculous standards that society tries to attach to us. I’d like you to meet Daphne Selfe.
