The Hipster Home » Blog Archive » How to Make a Tiny Terrarium in a Light Bulb Ahoy there Hipster Homers! I’m Julie and I’m the very first guest blogger on this fine site. Today’s project involves breaking stuff, plants, found objects, and miniatures. Fun, right? Let’s get started! The fallen Princesses of Dina Goldstein photo © Dina Goldstein Parent advisory: the following photos are certainly not for the faint-hearted! All fairy tales have good endings, don’t they? At least that’s what everybody wanted us to believe till now. Well, it’s time to reveal the aching truth: reality always is stronger than fiction and Yatzer, after having spent loads of money on private detectives, finally found where all those Disney princesses have ended up. Life didn’t treat well snow white, four children and a lazy husband is something that cannot be handled easily.

Artist Du Jour: Cliff Chiang We came across the work of Brooklyn-based comic illustrator and self-described “international playboy” Cliff Chiang at New York Comic Con last weekend. While we ended up buying a set of his printed cards depicting various female superheroes as retro pinup girls (shown below), this image of The Teen Titans channeling The Breakfast Club is still our favorite. Also included after the jump are two more of Chiang’s album cover mashups — Batgirl and Batman acting out Prince’s Purple Rain and Elektra as the Irene Cara character from Flashdance. Rashad Alakbarov Paints with Shadows and Light Artist Rashad Alakbarov from Azerbaijan uses suspended translucent objects and other found materials to create light and shadow paintings on walls. The best part is that you can easily create something similar at home – all you need is one or two lamps and some items from your desk. The stunning light painting below, made with an array of colored airplanes has found its way to exhibitions like the Fly to Baku at De Pury Gallery in London. Awesome Pencil Drawings by Jayaraj Paul Home » Drawing » Awesome Pencil Drawings by Jayaraj Paul 1.2K Flares1.2K Flares × Today we are showcasing awesome pencil drawings by Jayaraj Paul. He is a self taught illustrator who started drawing at an early age. Artist Du Jour: Christopher Uminga The child superheroes that inhabit the illustrations of New Haven, Connecticut-based artist Christopher Uminga can best be described as “emo.” Pretty much the furthest emotion you would attribute to their adult versions, which makes Uminga’s work that much more interesting. (Aloof, pensive and depressed are probably also appropriate adjectives for them.) We stumbled upon his booth at New York Comic Con and immediately coveted this contemplative Hulk print (among other works). Alas, we failed to make the impulse purchase, and by the time we returned on Sunday he’d already sold out. So, Christopher, if you happen to read this post, we would appreciate if you could let us know how to pick one up!

The Infinity Room - My Modern Metropolis - StumbleUpon With this immersive installation, French artist Serge Salat invites visitors to take a journey through endless layers of space, decked out with cubic shapes, panels of mirrors, shifting lights and music. “Beyond Infinity” is a multi-sensory, multimedia experience that blends Eastern Chinese with Western Renaissance. Inspired by the Suzhou Gardens, a masterpiece of Chinese landscape, the three-lined trigram of I Ching is the main pattern that organizes the space of the work. Salat uses mirrors as optical illusions, exploding a single room into spatial infinity. via [Architizer] Views: 422998

Dalton Ghetti creates amazing art on the tips of used pencils Most of us will agree with the age-old saying that “patience is a virtue.” How many of you, however, would actually hang on for two years and a half to bring a piece of art into existence? Dalton Ghetti, 49, a Bridgeport artist, has spent 25 good years working with a razor blade, a sewing needle and a sculpting knife for carving his unique art on the graphite of pencil.
