A short story by Josef Essberger "You don't have to be French to enjoy a decent red wine," Charles Jousselin de Gruse used to tell his foreign guests whenever he entertained them in Paris. "But you do have to be French to recognize one," he would add with a laugh. After a lifetime in the French diplomatic corps, the Count de Gruse lived with his wife in an elegant townhouse on Quai Voltaire. He was a likeable man, cultivated of course, with a well-deserved reputation as a generous host and an amusing raconteur. This evening's guests were all European and all equally convinced that immigration was at the root of Europe's problems. The first of the red Bordeaux was being served with the veal, and one of the guests turned to de Gruse. "Come on, Charles, it's simple arithmetic. "Yes, General. Without another word, de Gruse picked up his glass and introduced his bulbous, winey nose. "A truly full-bodied Bordeaux," he said warmly, "a wine among wines." "Really?" "But how? "Well?" There are many attempts to find a shortcut in learning irregular verbs, yet with all the options and “magic tricks” available, learning these verbs requires much memorization, drilling and practice. Today I will show how I use the Battleship game to drill and practise irregular verbs in a fun way. Before the game: Each player will need two 10×10 grids – one with irregular verbs in each square, and one blank grid. Click the Grids to download them. The players then mark where they want to place their ships by circling rows, horizontally or vertically. Australia whose name comes from the Latin word australis, meaning "southern", has a population of 23,480,939 and gained its independence in 1918. The initial inhabitants of Australia traveled here from far-southeast Asia, and from the Torres Strait islands. From their initial settlements in the north some 70,000 years ago, their individual lifestyles and cultural traditions eventually spread across this vast uncharted land. The first European exposure to Australia occurred in 1606, when the Dutch explorer, Willem Janszoon, sighted, then landed on the Cape York Peninsula. He found the area inhospitable and moved on. In 1688, on one of his three circumnavigations of the globe, William Dampier became the first British explorer to set foot on Australian land, coming ashore in Shark Bay. In the mid 18th century, Britain had an overcrowded prison population, and they required a new penal colony. They anchored at Port Jackson (Sydney Harbor) on January 26, 1788.

För ett antal år sedan sprang jag på en blogg av den roligare sorten. Det var en amerikan som bodde i Sverige och bloggade om sina upplevelser. Språket är verkligen autentiskt och väldigt informellt, vilket gör texten väldigt lätt att ta till sig.Jag kontaktade bloggaren och bad att få använda hans texter i undervisningen, vilket han gärna lät mig göra. Jag valde ut de avsnitt där han beskrev möten med svensk mat, som nyponsoppa, flädersaft, blodpudding och Djungelvrål. Jag skapade frågor till texterna som syftar till att både förstå innehållet och förstå vissa språkliga finurligheter. Det krävs en hel del strategier och omvärldskunskaper för att hänga med, det är svårt att förstå varför nyponsoppan plötsligt blir japansk om man inte känner till att Nippon är det japanska namnet för Japan, till exempel. Jag har använt de här övningarna i många grupper och de lockar alltid fram skratt. Enjoy!

Hur konkretiserar man aspekterna? Jag valde att lägga upp det på ett lite bakvänt sätt för mig då jag brukar börja med att visa på exempeltexter. Eget skrivande Eleverna fick sedan skriva brevet under resten av lektionen och fortsätta under nästa lektion för att hamna på den tid som eleverna får på själva skrivdagen på de nationella proven.
