PCB mill for under $10 Some problems and limitations 05/06/2014 at 05:48 • 7 comments Although this mill has produced some good results, it has also made some garbage. It would be naive of me to expect this mix of dumpster parts to perform as well or reliably as a proper mill. I don't want to make this sound too discouraging, but I'll try to describe some of the weak points of this project. The X and Y axes behave exactly as they did in the printer. One motor moves the print head along a shaft using a toothed belt, while the other turns a roller that moves the object via friction. Mostly Printed CNC / MultiTool by Allted WE WON! Over 10,000 3D Scans of Everyday Objects Released by Redwood Data Nowadays, it’s not such a rarity to see the use of 3D scanning to recreate historic artifacts or museum-worthy sculptures. The British Library is utilizing a 3D scanner to capture some of their massive collection of texts and artifacts, and others are using the technology to make valuable museum pieces more accessible. But, what about the objects we see in our daily lives? From the chairs we sit in to the cars we drive, these items can oftentimes go unappreciated (as well as unscanned and unprinted). The 3D scanning database Redwood Data has recently unveiled more than 10,000 unique 3D scans of objects from our everyday reality, ranging anywhere from books, kitchen equipment, and trash bins to bicycles, grand pianos, and shoes.

How to Make a Three Axis CNC Machine (Cheaply and Easily) A salute to those who have laboured through to this point (and to demonstrate that it is reproducable) Here are some pictures of other peoples machines. Photo 1 - Chris and his friend put together this unit; laser cutting the parts out of half inch acrylic. Not only does it look super it must weigh a ton. But kudos, anyone who's worked with acrylic knows laser cutting it is great but it is a very very unfriendly material to drill and there is a lot of side drilling in this design. Good job guys, check out more details (and photos including some testing with circuit boards) on Chris's blog rainbowlazer.com. I particularly like his work with making 3-d objects out of 2d cuts (here) .

How to make a mini milling machine- manual or CNC! I think one of the best things about tools is that they can be used to make more tools! I decided to build a miniature milling machine for machining plastic parts, creating wax patterns and for drilling really small precise holes. I also wanted to design it so that I could convert it to CNC for machining circuit boards and for doing repetitive work.
