Virtual Microscope

The Virtual Microscope is a NASA-funded project that provides simulated scientific instrumentation for students and researchers worldwide as part of NASA's Virtual Laboratory initiative. This site serves as home base for the Imaging Technology Group's contributions to that project—namely virtual microscopes and the multi-dimensional, high-resolution image datasets they view. Currently we provide 90 samples totaling over 62 gigapixels of image data. The Virtual Microscope, which is available for free download supports functionality from electron, light, and scanning probe microscopes, datasets for these instruments, training materials to learn more about microscopy, and other related tools. The project is open source and the code is available on Sourceforge. Our Virtual Instruments

Science Matters Yah, I know some of us are winding down from schooling for the summer months, but I can’t help but stay on the lookout for resources I know I’m going to be needing again all too soon. I’ve come across some interesting science things of late that I want to check out – perhaps you, too, can find something useful. OnLineLabs ChemLab There is a fee for this one, but it is well worth the price! They are truly interactive and you can design your own simulations! Go to the downloads page for a free evaluation trial Dartmouth ChemLab This site has some very good interactive virtual labs plus a terrific interactive periodic table! Virtual Chemistry Chemistry and Physics applets and phylsets from Davidson University. You can also download and use on your own webpages. Virtual Chemistry Lab This site has virtual experiments as well as webcasts on chemistry topics.

50 EdTech Resources You May Have Missed-Treasure Chest Jan 23 2011 Welcome to this week’s Treasure Chest of 50 EdTech Resources You May Have Missed. I try to post some of the more interesting topics and resources that I’ve come across during the past week. This week, I’m in a bit of a fun-loving mood so let’s start off with this site and see if you can do it! For Teachers - Origami DNA Origami DNA Type: Classroom activity Age level: What is it? - unischoolabs The UniSchooLabs tool-kit supports the teacher in selecting a remote or virtual lab and developing a lab activity based on an inquiry model template. While working with the toolkit the teacher has access to 3 main features: the lab catalogue;the activities created by other users;the tool for creating new activities or reusing an existing one. A UniSchooLabs activity is composed of a number of pages and associated doument's folders that facilitate the teacher in organizing experiments for the students using remote or virtual labs. Through these pages teachers are able to present the tasks at hand and provide the students with supporting learning materials and assignments.

Differentiator - free web app to help teachers differentiate using Blooms Taxonomy The Differentiator is a simple web app that helps you create objectives based on Bloom's Taxonomy. You simple click on the thinking skill, content, resources, product, or group tabs and then select what you want the student to do by clicking on the sub categories. For example, on the Thinking Skill tab, you can chose Remembering, Understanding, Applying, Analyzing, Evaluating, or Creating and then a sub-term. Product tab has visual, multi-media, oral, written, and construct tabs as what the student would create as a product to demonstrate their learning. Virtual Labs BioInteractive’s virtual labs have won several awards, including top honors in the Pirelli INTERNETional Award competition, which recognizes the best multimedia products designed to use the Internet to educate about science and technology. Designed in close consultation with educators and scientists, these virtual labs are fully interactive biomedical laboratory simulations and provide students with skills and techniques used in scientific research. BioInteractive’s series of virtual labs allows students to examine heart patients, analyze DNA sequences, probe the nervous system of a leech, use human antibodies to diagnose disease, and measure physical traits of stickleback fish and anole lizards to examine key concepts in evolution.

Science: Lab Safety Global rating average: 0.0 out of 50.00.00.00.00.0 These sites are about laboratory safety and how to use use lab equipment. There are interactive games, quizzes, worksheets, and podcasts. Includes two eThemes resources on Scientific Method and Scientific Principles. Grades
