FOR OVER ONE HUNDRED YEARS AMERICANS KNEW PIT BULLS FOR WHAT THEY DID BEST. BABYSITTING. Part I.

FOR OVER ONE HUNDRED YEARS AMERICANS KNEW PIT BULLS FOR WHAT THEY DID BEST. BABYSITTING. Part I.
Astoundingly, for most of our history America’s nickname for Pit Bulls was “The Nanny Dog”. For generations if you had children and wanted to keep them safe you wanted a pit bull, the dog that was the most reliable of any breed with children or adults. The Nanny Dog is now vilified by a media that always wants a demon dog breed to frighten people and LHASA-APSO BITES MAN just doesn’t sell papers. Before pit bulls it was Rottweilers, before Rottweilers it was Dobermans, and before them German Shepherds. Part II of this post may be found at: My Fan Club:

Sleepy-Time Smoothie My husband woke up coughing and a little feverish this morning. UGH... a darn COLD! I knew I'd need to set aside my chores and make the long drive to town to buy him some Nyquil. Seriously.... this Mint-Chocolate Smoothie tastes almost as good as it looks. I would also like to add that my husband now thinks I'm an angel disguised as his wife. Disclaimer: Use Nyquil ONLY as directed on the bottle. Ingredients: 1 Tablespoon/ Dose Cup of Nyquil 1 piece Spearmint Candy 2 Tablespoon Water Vanilla Ice Cream Cool Whip frozen topping Chocolate sauce 1 Strawberry Microwave the Spearmint candy and water until the candy is melted. Add the Nyquil, stir it well and put the liquid in the freezer. Take the chilled Nyquil liquid from the freezer and add 2 or 3 BIG scoops of Vanilla Ice Cream and blend quickly with a fork or whisk. Pour the Sleepy-time (rest-and-get-a-good-nights'-sleep) Smoothie into a Ice cold Glass. Top with a dollop of Cool Whip and drizzle generously with chocolate sauce.

While old dogs can be taught new tricks, what's learned earliest, is often learned quickest and easiest. Moreover, the older the dog, the more bad habits will likely need to be "un-learned". When it comes to raising and training a dog, an ounce of problem prevention is certainly worth a pound of cure! 2) Train your dog gently and humanely, and whenever possible, teach him using positive, motivational methods. Keep obedience sessions upbeat so that the training process is enjoyable for all parties involved. 3) Does your dog treat you like "hired help" at home? 4) Avoid giving your dog commands that you know you cannot enforce. 5) One command should equal one response, so give your dog only one command (twice max!) 6) Avoid giving your dog combined commands which are incompatible. 7) When giving your dog a command, avoid using a loud voice. 9) Correct or, better yet, prevent the (mis)behavior, don't punish the dog. 12) Keep a lid on your anger.

Pit Bull Prohibition: Oregon Moves Toward Banning Pit Bulls 1, March 2, 2009 by jonathanturley While it has become common for cities and counties to ban pit bulls, Oregon is considering a bill to ban the dogs from the entire state. Oregon may be the first state to declare owning pit bulls a crime, if the legislation passes. Pit bull owners insist that their dogs are not more vicious and that it is the fault of the owners. However, the Oregon legislation may become a model for other states. While I do not expect dog smugglers to follow this prohibition, it could lead to some interesting challenges. For the full story, click here. [Update: The Oregon legislators have indicated that they may pull the bill for further study this year] Like this: Like Loading...

5 Real Life Soldiers Who Make Rambo Look Like a Pussy We all understand that action movies are cheesy escapism. After all, could one commando really take out a whole compound full of bad guys? Actually, yes. It turns out the history books are full of stories of soldiers doing things so badass they'd hesitate to put them into a film for fear of killing the realism. Like these five, for example. #5. Who Was He? Simo Hayha had a fairly boring life in Finland. Since the majority of fighting took place in the forest, he figured the best way to stop the invasion was to grab his trusty rifle, a couple of cans of food and hide in a tree all day shooting Russians. Can you spot Hayha? Of course when the Russians heard that dozens of their men were going down and that it was all one dude with a rifle, they got fucking scared. They started by sending out a task force to find Hayha and take him out. Then they tried getting together a team of counter-snipers (which are basically snipers that kill snipers) and sent them in to eliminate Hayha. #4. Exactly.

Dont Bully My Breed It is an ironic twist that around the same time dogfighting became outlawed, the Pit Bull began showing up in the media in a negative light. In 1976, the Supreme Court passed the Animal Welfare Act of 1976. This groundbreaking act made dogfighting officially illegal in all 50 states, as well as set strict penalties for anyone found caught fighting dogs. Unfortunately, it is often said that when something is made criminal, that it will attract criminals. Massive misinformation began being spread about Pit Bulls during this time as well. In their efforts to get the Welfare Law passed, some of the major "animal advocacy" groups completely vilified the Pit Bull and spawned the myths that still haunt the breed today. Soon, Pit Bulls found themselves in the hands of people we'd like to keep them out of.

ASPCA study: "Pretty" pups picked first | Animal Nation Cute counts -- but so does personalityThe ASPCA is set to release a study revealing that "physical appearance" is the most important reason pet adopters give for choosing puppies from animal shelters. Cats, meanwhile, could rely on inner beauty; the numbers showed that "behavior with people" was the most important quality folks looked for in a feline. The ASPCA conducted the research from January to May of last year, gathering information at five shelters nationwide. Roughly 1,500 prospective pet parents answered questionnaires about their chosen pets, and how they decided that a particular animal was the one for them. The organization hopes to use their answers to make better and more frequent matches between shelter pets and people; understanding what factors go into the adoption decision is extra-handy for the front-line shelter workers, who can then supply additional information and insights about particular cats or dogs that might not be immediately evident to a first-time browser.

20 Tree House Pictures: Play-Club Plans to Big-Kid Houses Treehouses are more popular than ever, as play spaces for children but also as luxury hotel (and even house) designs for adults. Some of the most fantastic plans and ideas can be traced to specialist designers and builders – and pictures of their work can provide some of the best inspiration (as well as an informal visual guide) for do-it-yourself recreational, residential and commercial tree buildings. Blue Forest is one such company, but far from the only one. Their specialty seems to lie somewhere between playful little fantasy structures and big educational spaces for children engaged in wildlife observation, forest ecology and related nature-oriented pursuits. The trick is to find a balance between safe and fun – railings are a must, as are sturdy supports, but whimsy and asymmetry help make these places feel more organic and engaging for younger visitors in particular. Some are like mansions, fortresses or castles – just set up on stilts instead of sitting on the ground.

The Gashlycrumb Tinies With Maidens of Mystery - The artwork of Audrey Kawasaki | culturazzi Audrey Kawasaki is a Los Angeles-based painter, known for her characteristic works that are painted directly onto wood panels. Kawasaki studied fine art painting at the Pratt Institute in New York City, but left after two years without completing her degree. The emphasis that New York art standards put on conceptual art was at odds with her painting ideologies and was the reason for her leaving. The unique style that she renders to her artworks can be described as a fusion of eastern as well as western traditions such as Art Nouveau and Japanese Manga comics. Audrey’s paintings are portrayals of young, mesmerizing women who come across as innocent and tantalizing at once. Audrey’s command of her unique and precise illustrative style has made her works wildly popular today and has found her an esteemed place in the art gallery scene across the world.

Hinduism About Hinduism: Oldest of the world's major religions. It evolved from the Vedic religion of ancient India. Though the various Hindu sects each rely on their own set of scriptures, they all revere the ancient Vedas, which were brought to India by Aryan invaders after 1200 BC. Fundamental to Hinduism is the belief in a cosmic principle of ultimate reality called Brahman, and its identity with the individual soul, or atman. The greatest Hindu deities are Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. The hierarchical social structure of the caste system is important in Hinduism; it is supported by the principle of dharma. In the 20th century Hinduism has blended with Indian nationalism to become a potent political force. Important Persons: Krishna Krishna (Sanskrit for 'black'), is according to common Hindu tradition the eighth avatar of Vishnu. Rama Rama (sometimes referred to as Lord Rama and also as Shri Rama) is a Hindu incarnation of God, said to be one of the ten avatars of Vishnu. Shiva
