The 12 Most Beautiful Castles in Europe
For centuries, people have been fascinated with castles. Whether they were home to cruel leaders (such as Count Dracula) or the settings of love stories, the castles always played an important part in European history. Nowadays, they make “guest appearances” in movies or are the perfect place to spend an interesting vacation. There are actually thousands of castles throughout Europe, though many of them are in surprising states of disrepair if they are even recognizable as castles at all. But there are also hundreds of well preserved castles you can tour yourself, and the dozen below just might be the most beautiful of all of them. 1 – Château de Chenonceau, France The castle is built on river Cher, offering one of the most beautiful sights as it reflects in the water. The castle is located in the small city of Chenonceaux. >> Read about train travel in France or find out what to eat in Paris 2 – Neuschwanstein, Germany Does this castle also look familiar? 4 – Ashford Castle, Cong, Ireland

Easter Island Statues: New Theory Explains How Rapa Nui Moai Were Moved (PHOTOS, VIDEO) For most, the mention of Easter Island, or Rapa Nui, the small, isolated island more than 2,000 miles off the coast of South America, conjures images of giant statues known as moai. But ever since Dutch explorers found the island on Easter Sunday in 1722, people have wondered how the Rapanui, the island's native inhabitants, were able to transport the hundreds of huge sculptures from the quarry where they were carved to stone platforms throughout the island, all without the use of wheels or draft animals. Over the last sixty years, scientists have theorized that the Rapanui moved the moai -- some of which are as tall as 33 feet and weigh more than 80 tons -- using various methods, from strapping the statues to tree trunks and dragging them on the ground to rolling them on sleds over felled trees. But in the July issue of National Geographic, Hannah Bloch explores the latest theory, put forward by Terry Hunt, an archeologist at the University of Hawaii, and Carl P. Loading Slideshow

Two curious Guys Came Across This Secret Bunker. - SOCIAL2 Reddit User Sniper98g found an amazing Cold War relic in an abandoned shack on a military bases. These two guys have some big cojones for sure. I probably not enter this shack. So I give them respect for even entering. On the surface – This is what they saw before they entered. A ladder. When they went down the ladder, this was their first stop, A small platform. This small platform lead to some staircases. Then another set of staircase… At the bottom they found a big door… Naturally they entered… That opened up pretty easily. Next was a small bridge to get to the main platform. The bridge was suspended from big ass shock isolators. This seems to be the whole reason this thing was built. Then they found this fuel tank And then they found 2 more ladders going even deeper into the surface. After they climbed down, they found bunch of old air handling equipment. Some of the stuff found was in very bad shape. The bottom of this place had stared to fill with water. This was an amazing find.

Roanoke Colony Failed Colony in North America (1585–1590) The establishment of the Roanoke Colony ( ROH-ə-nohk) was an attempt by Sir Walter Raleigh to found the first permanent English settlement in North America. The colony was first founded in 1585, but after only five years, when a ship visited the colony in 1590, the colonists had disappeared without explanation. Roanoke Colony was founded by governor Ralph Lane in 1585 on Roanoke Island in what is now Dare County, North Carolina, United States. The fate of the approximately 112–121 colonists remains unknown. Interest in the matter fell into decline until 1834, when George Bancroft published his account of the events in A History of the United States. Background[edit] A 1529 map depicting "Verazzano's Sea" extending from the North Atlantic to the Outer Banks The Outer Banks were explored in 1524 by Giovanni da Verrazzano, who mistook Pamlico Sound for the Pacific Ocean, and concluded that the barrier islands were an isthmus. Gun Shoots Criminals With DNA Tags, Marking Them For Later Arrest Riots are a tough nut for law enforcement in part because of the sheer number of people involved--it's impossible to stop and arrest every person involved in a skirmish. That's why cops have some pretty high-tech methods for catching suspects, from facial recognition software to debilitating sonic cannons. But none is as bizarre as this new DNA gun from a UK security firm. The SelectaDNA High Velocity System works like it sounds--it shoots people with pellets containing a unique DNA fingerprint. The pellets come in rifle or pistol form, containing 14 pellets per container. Apparently Selectamark (what a name) also makes DNA grease, gel and spray to tag personal belongings or other items.
