We Heart This - DIY: Knotted Headband - Your new favorite fall accessory Are you guys gearing your closet up for fall weather? If you’re like me, you are just waiting for the cold front to strike so you can whip out outfits you’ve been creating in your mind while you are supposed to be concentrating on other things – like school and work and oh, did I forget to pick up the kids? Today I have an easy DIY to spice up your fall wardrobe. As many of you know, knotted headbands were recently popularized by Blair Waldorf of Gossip Girl. Even if you are not a pop culture fanatic, you may have heard of Blair’s delightful headgear. Knots are generally associated with a nautical theme and thus, heavily utilized in the spring and summer. Today I will show you the most basic technique for creating your very own knotted headband. Supplies: • rope or cord (I bought mine from Hobby Lobby – an entire spool for .99!) Step 1: Cut your rope an appropriate length. Step 2: Time to create the knot, the focal point of your headband. The main work is done! Ta-da! 1.

Update On The 'S' French Braid Updo: Step By Step How-to I am flattered that the response is so great on the French Braid Updo. Here is a series of steps in photos that hopefully sheds some light on how to do it. Brush your hair. *For curly hair, don't brush it, just run your fingers through your hair. Start slight off centre of your crown. Braid slightly diagonally towards your ear. Curve back from your ear and braid in the same manner to the other side. Keep braiding as per above back and forth until you run out of hair. Et Voila. Helps?? Let me know if this a) helps or b) confuses more. Even though I've been a hairstylist for 20 years, I swear you can do this if you can master a French braid. TIP: Next time you see your hairstylist, ask her to watch how you French braid and correct any mistakes you may have. I know, this just may be the Rubik's Cube of hairstyling.

3 Simple Homemade Lip Balms - Your Lipsve Never Been Yummier Three Amigo Lip Balms Waiting for a homemade lip balm to set up is a little like developing a Polaroid. You stand there and watch. And then you touch. And then you curse, because it wasn’t quite dry and you screwed up the pristine look. And then you watch. So my first recommendation when making your own homemade lip balm: Pour it in your container and walk away. Seriously. These are the three homemade lip balm recipes that I’ve enjoyed the most over the past couple of years. One is made with lavender essential oil, one has a main ingredient of coconut oil, and the last … well, it’s peppermint-chocolatey goodness. Now, with all these recipes, you can substitute whatever essential oils you have on hand (or prefer). This recipe uses honey, which gives the balm a heavenly taste. Note: This lip balm is relatively soft, but I think it would hold up just fine if you wanted to pour it in a clean lip balm tube. Luscious Lavender Lip Balm Recipe More About the Color It was lovely! You know what else?

Demi Lovato: Awesome Concert Speech After Fan Throws Barbie On Stage on Cambio It's been well established that we loveDemi Lovato--but check out this video from a recent concert, where Demi talks to the crowd after a Barbie doll is flung her way. We love Demi's honesty--and the way that her experiences and words can have such a huge impact on Lovatics. Demi tells her fans, "I've been through so much in my 20 years of life... And it's very important that I share this story with you guys because I know there are a lot of you guys in this audience tonight that have dealt with bullying, that have dealt with an eating disorder, self harm or substance abuse." She adds, "I know how you guys feel and I want to show you guys that you can get through it because I'm living proof right here." As for Barbie, Demi says, "It's kind of ironic because I spent my whole life trying to be this and to look like this. She added, "And it means the world to me that you guys still love me no matter what." Demi gives Barbie the old heave ho and then sings Skyscraper. Love, love, love!

LOOK: The Fishtail Braid April 15, 2011 Filed Under: Hair, Looks, Trends, Tutorials, Tutorials When I was a little girl, I had this amazing ‘KLUTZ’ brand book that had tons of different ways to braid and style your hair. Hairstyles -- Complete Hairstyles Guide -- Total Beauty In the world of hair styling, edge control is something most of my fair, flaxen-haired friends have never heard of, but it's an essential step for kinky-curly, bound-to-be-frizzy, African-American hair maintenance. Those stray wispies along the hairline aren't meant to roam free, as in some sepia-toned Alicia Keys video. If there's anything our favorite naturalistas have taught us, it's that going natural isn't just about going with the 'fro, and taming those frazzled edges at your hairline takes a lot more artillery than a little shine serum and hairspray. Controlling your edges can be a lifelong project ... a mission, if you will. But there's a whole category of products designed to make this mission: possible.

How to Make Your Own Beauty Products from Scratch - Health - GOOD Let's keep things simple this week. When it comes to personal-care products, we are big believers in streamlining what you use—see "Eight Products You Think You Need But Don't" for a refresher—buying less in general, and getting creative. We have both always loved experimenting in our kitchens and our bathrooms, checking ingredients in products we love, isolating the main ones, and then trying them on their own. Sometimes it works: A favorite hair leave-in contained aloe, for example, so one day we tried aloe alone and found that, lo and behold, it worked just fine on its own. And sometimes it didn't. Over the years we have tried dozens of DIY beauty recipes to find ones we like—and that work. Simple body scrub Honey face wash We already told you about our new favorite homemade face wash last week but here's the recipe: In the palm of your hand, combine a tablespoon of raw, unfiltered honey with a half a tablespoon of baking soda, mix it together, and apply to damp skin.
