Selon Sun, le passage des 20 degrés Celsius actuels à 27°C se traduit par une réduction de 4 % de consommation électrique totale du data center. Depuis près d’un an, il fait fonctionner des serveurs HP, des commutateurs Cisco, et une baie de stockage IBM à l’air libre, sans aucun système de régulation thermique ou hygrométrique, quelle que soit la saison : été chaud, hiver froid, automne humide, etc. Les températures mesurées sur la période ont varié de –1 degré Celsius (31°F) à 41 degré Celsius (105°F) et le niveau d’humidité relative de 8 à 83 %.
