Simone Handbag Museum 가방을 든 남자2014.01.07 - 2014.03.30 신사동 가로수길에 위치한 Bagstage 빌딩에서 ‘갤러리0914’에서는 2013년 10월부터 2015년 9월까지 가방을 주제로 한 전시 프로젝트 ‘Bagstage展 by 0914’가 진행된다. ‘Bagstage展 by 0914’는 전세계 명품 브랜드의 핸드백을 개발하고 제조해 온 ㈜ 시몬느가 새롭게 선보이는 브랜드 ‘0914’의 런칭을 위해 진행되는 아트프로젝트로 2년 동안 총 9회의 전시로 구성되며 매번 다양한 테마와 관점에서 가방을 재조명한다. ‘Bagstage展 by 0914’의 두 번째 전시인 <Bag is history_ 가방을 든 남자>가 진행되고 있다. 2014년 1월 7일부터 3월 30일까지 진행되는 <Bag is history_ 가방을 든 남자>는 GQ의 이충걸 편집장을 화자로 하여 지금껏 깊이 논의된 바 없었던 남자의 가방에 대한 흥미로운 이야기가 펼쳐진다. 전시의 첫 번째 섹션에는 이충걸이 그 동안 선물 받았던 가방들의 사진과 비하인드 스토리를 통해 현재와 과거에 대한 에세이를 들려주며, 두 번째 섹션에서는 트위터를 매개로 하여 가방에 대한 다양한 사람들의 개인적인 단상들과 이야기를 시각화 하여 보여준다. 또한 속도감 있게 펼쳐지는 영상 속에는 마틴 루터킹, 앤디 워홀, 비틀즈, 프랭크 시나트라 등 소위 ‘역사적’이라고 불리는 남자들과 그들의 가방이 실어 나르는 선의, 컬트, 자아도취, 영욕 등의 위트 있는 메시지를 엿볼 수 있다. 지극히 일상적이고 개인적인 것이지만 개인적이지 않은, 익숙한 것이지만 지금까지 논해본 적 없는 남자의 가방을 사진과 SNS, 영상과 텍스트 등의 다채로운 형태로 구현한 이번 전시는 빠르고 감각적인 비주얼에 익숙한 세대들에게 친숙하면서도 새로운 문화적 경험을 선사할 것이다.

We contacted long-time resident of Flamborough, Nora Woodhouse, who knitted our first Ganseys (from memory) in several different North-East Coast patterns. She had originally been taught to knit Ganseys before the war by her fisherman father after her mother had been drowned at Robin Hood’s Bay. From Nora’s Ganseys we were able to make charts of the patterns which, beforehand, had not normally been written down but, rather, were passed on by word of mouth.
