Four Homemade Cleaners This was easier than I thought it would be. One of Betsy’s goals for the year was to ditch some of our standard cleaners that we use around the house and make them! Honestly, I was a bit skeptical about this project mainly because I wasn’t sure that homemade cleaners would really get the job done. And my lovely wife is a bit of a neat freak so there’s no way she would use something that didn’t perform well. So a couple of weekends ago she went out and bought a few staple ingredients and some empty spray bottles and we spent a few minutes mixing up four different homemade cleaners that have since replaced 90% of the cleaners we use around the house. For the last few weeks we’ve been using them now and I’ve been so impressed by how well they are working, I thought I’d share them all with you in case any of you are interested in ditching the chemicals. Margarita Cupcakes • Masshole Mommy Hey, there’s wrong with a little booze in your cupcakes every now and then, right? Admittedly, I’m not much of a baker, but every now and then I can pull off something that’s just pure awesomeness. Hence these amazing margarita cupcakes. They’re a little bit of work, but trust me, these are well worth it. I think they’re perfect for a night with the girls – or do what I do, down about six of them on a stressful day after the kids are in bed. PS – if any of you actually make this recipe, please let me know how much you liked them. Ingredients: For the Lime Cupcakes 3 cups flour1 Tbsp of baking powder1/2 teaspoon of salt1 cup (2 sticks) of unsalted butter - softened2 cups of sugar4 eggs3 limes, zested and juiced (remember – it’s worth all the work)1/2 teaspoon of vanilla1 cup of buttermilk1/4 cup of tequila For the Tequila-Lime Buttercream Frosting Here’s what you do: Preheat your oven to 325 and get your muffin tins ready (with muffin papers). Frosting: Easy peasy japanesy!

Make Your Own Pizza Dough If you have kids, chances are you often have pizza. Mine seemed to have been born loving it. Fortunately, they don’t discriminate between takeout and homemade pizza, and so I can control what goes into it. Once you get the hang of making your own dough it’s easy to mix up a batch when you get home from work and let it rise while you change and play with the kids and get ready for dinner – then you can roll or pat it out (kids love this part too), top it and cook it in a hot oven or on a preheated grill in minutes. To make flavored pizza dough, add a generous pinch of chopped fresh or dried basil, rosemary or oregano, a clove of minced garlic, a few finely chopped olives or sun dried tomatoes (if they come packed in oil, use it in place of the olive oil) or 1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper along with the flour. Joyfolie: DIY Wednesday - Lace Crowns Yesterday I posted some photos of our Luna shoes and matching clip with the crown above. Mia and I made the crown together, and today I will show you the step by step to make your own lace crown. A few notes before I begin the tutorial: this was not my original idea. Materials:lace - 13-15" depending on desired sizefabric stiffener or modge podgegold, bronze or silver paint or a paint penwax paper Tools:paint brushglue gun Let's talk supplies :) For the silver crown, I used some really interesting, really wide crocheted trim. Once you have your lace, cut it to 13"-15" inches depending on desired size. After the lace has been saturated, blot off excess and allow to dry. Once the lace has dried enough so it is no longer tacky, paint it the desired color. After the paint has dried, match up the pattern and glue the lace in a circle with the glue gun {or craft glue}. Here is another photo of the silver crown being worn:

Cinnamon Sugar Pull-Apart Bread I’m sorry. I know it’s Monday morning and you probably came here for some pretty pictures of food that you could glance at, and then move on with your day… and here I go thrusting warm, soft cinnamon sugar bread in your face. It’s not fair. I know it’s not fair. I know that now you’re craving cinnamon rolls, and cream cheese frosting and chili fries and hot dogs. You don’t deserve this sort of torture. This bread hits all the comfort spots in my soul. I’m sorry and you’re welcome and I love you. Let’s start at the beginning. I did this all without the use of a stand mixer and dough hook. This dough can be made and left to rise , then refrigerated overnight for use in the morning. This is the dough just before it’s left to rise. After the dough has rested and risen for an hour, I knead it in a few tablespoons of flour. This is the part in the bread process where you can wrap the dough and place it in the fridge to rest overnight. I worked with my dough right away. I can’t even deal.

Leprechaun Trap Cake This may look like a perfectly innocent cake meant to lure a leprechaun to the top but it has a few secrets. Secret #1: Beneath the pile of gold coins are fragile bars, when the leprechaun approaches to grab the coins he’ll fall into the pit and be trapped. Secret #2: There is a rainbow hiding inside the cake. The leprechaun will discover this as he eats his way to freedom. Have you heard of Leprechaun traps? I decided that my angel food cake pan, with the hole in the middles, would make an excellent shape for a leprechaun trap. To read the complete how-to for this cake please click on MORE. To form the rainbow in this cake I used the method shown here at Omnomicon which is very simple — separate your cake batter, color each section, then pour it into your cake pan one color on top of the next. You can see this effect in the image above from Omnomicon, the color poured in last is much more prominent than the color that went first, which is squeezed and spread around the bottom. Notes:
