So far, the vehicle has achieved over 3000 miles without any driver involvement. The system uses radar, precise GPS maps, cameras and ultrasound to sense the position of the car and its surroundings, as well as other vehicles on the road and the layout up ahead. The prototype system can react to merging vehicles and allow them to join the traffic flow (even changing lanes if it needs to) all at speeds of up to 80 mph.
