Why Does My Dog . . . Sniff the Ground Before He Poops? - Vetstreet Every day, all over the world, dogs repeat the same ritual: Nose to the ground, they sniff along a dotted line of an invisible treasure map, stopping at that “X” marks the spot where they can finally get down to business. What’s with all this sniffing, anyway? The simple answer: It’s the way dogs have been communicating with one another for centuries. Scent Marking Is Serious Business Scent marking is an instinctual behavior in which a dog deposits his own odor — in the form of urine or feces — onto his environment to mark territory or make a statement. Other dogs who come upon the scent can discern a lot about fellow canines in the neighborhood. Anal Gland Aromas While urine marking is the most common form of scent marking, feces can also be used to leave a message. Since dogs can also express their anal glands when scared, the scent may also serve to alert other dogs to danger.

8 relationship myths that might surprise you There are hundreds of myths about relationships, according to Terri Orbuch, Ph.D, a Michigan clinical psychologist and author of "5 Simple Steps to Take Your Marriage from Good to Great" (Delacorte Press, 2009). The problem with persistent myths is that they can erode a relationship's happiness, she said. When you think a relationship should be a certain way, and yours isn't, frustration sets in. And "frustration is the number one thing that eats away at a relationship," Orbuch said, and "it's directly tied to these myths." That's why it's so critical to bust the below misconceptions. 1. Fact: "The strongest most enduring relationships take lots of hard work," said Lisa Blum, Psy.D, a clinical psychologist in Pasadena and Los Angeles, who specializes in emotionally focused therapy with couples. She likened a healthy relationship to a good garden. But how do you know if you're working too hard on a relationship? 2. 3. Daily routines are one of the culprits, Blum said. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.

How to spray paint furniture In the last few days, I have received several emails and comments asking for a “how to” on how I paint my furniture. Honestly, every piece is different but typically we do the same few steps. I will use my dresser redo to explain things since that is where the majority of the questions came from! You gals are so sweet with all of the compliments! For this piece, it was a dark wood with a glossy lacquer of some sort over top. Then I wiped off the dust from sanding. Next, I removed all the hardware and put it in a sandwich baggie so I didn’t lose anything. Next, I took all of the drawers and put them “face up” in the grass (I like to spray in the grass because once you mow the grass all your paint goes bye-bye and you have no overspray issues or clean-up! I gave all of the drawers two coats of KILZ Spray Primer. The only issue I have found with this primer is that it can leave a little gritty texture once it dries so I used a shop rag and rubbed it off. Next came the paint! Pin It Related

*The Thrifty Home: How to Remove Hard Water I clean my sink with ajax every day after washing the dishes, but that doesn't prevent this nasty build up. I have very stubborn Utah hard water. Yes, I could just get a water softener, but my DH doesn't support me on that idea. It would be too much work for him to have to buy salt pellets, haul them home and put them in the soft water tank all of the time. I have tried all of the hard water products out there. To clean my faucets I had to get a little more creative. I also use vinegar on my shower heads to unclog all of the holes.
