Sing, sing a song – 8 ways of using songs in the ELT classroom Late in February a BrELTer asked what she could do with songs in ELT lessons. My comment there was huge (sorry!) because I simply love using songs in language learning, both as a teacher and as a student. In fact, I have forgotten most of the French I’ve been taught except for the French in songs (and may I add, “Non, rien de rien, je ne regrette rien”). Ways to use song lyrics to improve comprehension Winner of the TeachingEnglish blog award Miguel Míguez explains how teachers can use song lyrics in the classroom. Song lyrics are great for developing broad comprehension skills Teachers often use songs in the language classroom for comprehension exercises like 'gap-fills' (finding the right word to fill a gap in a sentence), re-ordering words so they make sense, or matching related words. In these exercises, students have to listen for words or phrases connected to a specific grammatical focus or semantic field. This approach involves working with individual sounds, words and phrases, rather than the text as a whole. But you can also use songs to develop broader comprehension and critical thinking skills.

Listen, learn and teach English for elementary and pre-intermediate English learners For teachers These podcasts can be used in your classroom or computer lab to supplement course book listenings. The conversations are more authentic and so the language is more natural.

What makes 'Black Panther' so special? Hello, everyone, and welcome back to another video for the British Council’s LearnEnglish Teens website and their YouTube channel. I’m so excited to be making this video today about the Black Panther film which recently came out. For those of you who do not know what the film’s about or maybe haven’t seen it yet, it basically follows the story of the Marvel comic, the ‘Black Panther’, where our Wakandan king, T'Challa, is both the superhero and the king of the movie. He possesses the power of the black panther. As with every superhero film, our hero for this film, T’Challa, has to fight off the evil guys who are basically trying to disrupt and destroy the world, creating these mass weapons out of a special metal called vibranium, which is only found in Wakanda. Wakanda itself is a fictional African country but it is, in many ways, very real as well.
