Lev Tolstoj Lev Nikolajevitj Tolstoj (russisk: Лев Николаевич Толстой, lyt + ?), i vesten også Leo Tolstoj (9. september 1828 – 20. november 1910) var en russisk forfatter og politisk tænker, der blev født på familiens gods i Jasnaja Poljana ved Tula syd for Moskva, Rusland. I 1847 forlod han universitetet uden eksamen. Han fik sit gennembrud med erindringsværket Barndom i 1852. Tolstoj gennemlevede en religiøs krise og i de næste 10-15 år skrev han især religiøse og moralske skrifter. På dansk foreligger novellesamlingen Fortællinger(1965) med de to kendte novelle i 1. bog: Herre og tjener og Jord, jord! I 1901 blev Tolstoj udstødt af den ortodokse kirke.
