You may want to listen to this episode of the Comic Book Diner podcast, where they discuss their Kickstarter listing. The CBD folks are attempting to raise $10,000 for a boxed set of three graphic novels, one by each creator in the group. I’m curious as to how readers think about pricing when it comes to Kickstarter. The podcast covers, in a conversational way, much of their thinking behind raising funds using this mechanism. The goal is to find a way to produce comics without having to rely on Diamond preorders, since enough of the remaining comic shops have had to cut support for independent and small publishers to make it difficult for this kind of material to make it to shelves. The books are due out in August, and the team have stated that they “are prepared go forward no matter what,” even if this funding method doesn’t succeed.

How to be interviewed The explosion of media channels and public events means that more people are being interviewed about more topics than ever before. It might even happen to you... and soon. They call it giving an interview, not taking one, and for good reason. If you're not eager to share your perspective, don't bother showing up.Questions shouldn't be taken literally. The purpose of the question is to give you a chance to talk about something you care about. The Beginner's Guide to Starting a Newsletter At the beginning of the year (2010), I started a newsletter here on SPI and used an eBook I wrote, eBooks the $mart Way, as a free gift to help generate more leads. Three months later, I now have over 2,250 people signed up for the newsletter and it averages about 30 new subscribers a day. I have no previous email list to compare these numbers with, so I can’t say for sure whether those are stellar numbers, or just average – but either way I’m very happy with the results and would love to share with you how it’s all done, especially for you beginners out there who have been emailing me non-stop about it. I apologize I’ve waited this long to write this post. Update (April 2012): I’m currently seeing between 50 to 110 subscribers per day, and have accumulated over 28,000 subscribers! Imagine if I had started sooner! What is a Newsletter, and Why Would You Want to Offer One? For the sake of this post, I’ll be talking only about email newsletters. Good question. Online karma does exist. {! 1.
