Personas Whew. That was close. As every year, there’s a risk that we’ll be overrun with with zombies, werewolves, vampires, sasquatch(es), and mummies before the veil that separates the world seals tight for another year. But a quick tally around the Cooper offices shows that here, at least, we all made it. Monsters are extreme personas One of the power of personas is that they encourage designers to be more extrospective, to stop designing for themselves. But then again… Some of the constraints of the monsters are human constraints writ large (or writ strangely). Juan wasn’t a useful person in and of himself, but his users exercised flash mob requirements of real-time activation and coordination. So maybe they’re great personas after all, guiding us to great design because they’re extreme, just like the canonical OXO Good Grips story, where designing for people with arthritis led the design teams to create products with universal appeal.

Designing for humans | Information & Design IDEO | A Design and Innovation Consulting Firm See The Difference, online fundraising and charity donations, non profit organization UK Show me the difference Back in 2008 every piece of research we looked at (over 10 years worth), national consumer surveys and our own focus groups and our friends, colleagues and families told us the same story. Givers first concerns were constant: where does my money go, what difference does it make? Show givers where their money was going and the difference it was making and they’d give more the theory went (and maybe arrest the decline in the percentage of the population giving too). Simples. SeeTheDifference: crowdfunding pioneer BBC TV producer Dominic Vallely quit his job and started assembling an awesome team to develop the vision and raise the money to get it started. The vision was a state of the art site packed with amazing charity projects brought to life in video, where you could browse and choose the differences you wanted to make. We wanted to make what you gave to part of who you are and it was designed to be social, shareable and repeatable from the start. I’m in .. Pivot or die

11 Reasons why responsive web design isn't that cool! Since Ethan Marcotte published his seminal article on Responsive Web Design there’s been an explosion of articles related to this topic. The guy truly made a good work also publishing a book about it , deepening on what many consider, since then, should be a standard for web design. If you have no idea of what this thing is, this Responsive Web Design thing, but simultaneously you’ve been thinking and working on a way for your web projects to be viewable in multiple devices, then you are instinctively working on responsive web design. Here’s a little insight: The main objective of responsive web design is the inherent flexibility a website can acquire through the application of fluid grids, images and CSS Media Queries to adapt the content and design of the website to any device, even if it is a desktop computer, a laptop, an iPad or a Smartphone. You do not have to create a mobile version of your website; you do not have to create an application for every popular device on earth. 1.

Boxes and Arrows: The design behind the design UX Booth: User Experience & Usability Blog Work - Human Centered Design Toolkit - IDEO For years, businesses have used human-centered design to develop innovative solutions. Why not apply the same approach to overcome challenges in the nonprofit world? This project, funded by International Development Enterprise (IDE) as part of a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, sought to provide NGOs and social enterprises with the tools to do just that. IDEO, in collaboration with nonprofit groups ICRW and Heifer International, developed the HCD Toolkit to help international staff and volunteers understand a community’s needs in new ways, find innovative solutions to meet those needs, and deliver solutions with financial sustainability in mind. The HCD Toolkit was designed specifically for NGOs and social enterprises that work with impoverished communities in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The HCD toolkit has been used by organizations throughout the developing world, including Acumen Fund, AyurVAID, Heifer International, ICRW, IDE, Micro Drip, and VisionSpring.

Own A Colour And Help Save A Child's Life Thoughts On Developing A Responsive Design Workflow Print design has the physical constraint of the canvas. The format is fixed. The situation is different on the web. We can’t know in advance exactly how someone will view our sites. We don’t have a fixed canvas. How To Build A Responsive site Believe it or not we’ve already covered all the technical details for building responsive sites over the last few weeks. Flexible grids — which are based on relative measurements, ideally elastic sites that are relative to something internal to the design. The last few weeks we’ve gone over the details of each of the above and I’ll refer you back to those posts for the details. Ethan is the person responsible for responsive web design and my posts, including this one have relied heavily on his work and writing. I can’t recommend the links above enough, particularly the last link, Ethan’s new book on responsive web design. InteractiveWall from Festo HQ on Vimeo. Thoughts About Responsive Design I’m only beginning my exploration of responsive design.
