Need a new reason to cry at weddings? Tosando, a Japanese company that offers musical instruments and lessons, is pleased to oblige with this intense, time-tripping tear-jerker. The short film tells the story of a widowed, middle-aged father and his daughter on her wedding day. At the reception, dad sits at the piano and attempts to play Pachelbel's Canon, which opens the floodgates for memories both happy and sad. The flashbacks are a tad disorienting at first, but you'll get the gist. (RocketNews24 has a handy breakdown/translation for those in need.) Judging from reactions around the Web, this finely crafted cinematic spot, clocking in at more than three minutes, has left more than a few viewers misty-eyed. Indeed, emotion-stirring ads from Asia are a big deal these days. All advertising is manipulative to some degree, but at least these weepers win us over with deft manipulation.

Who Creates The Brand Narrative? During a recent exchange on the growing impact of social customer service, Alan Berkson asked me “who creates the brand narrative”? Interesting question (as is often the case with Mr. Berkson). When I search back through Sensei Inc.’s research and client experiences, there’s really only one conclusion that can be drawn in answering this question. Business strategists and marketers do not have direct control over the brand narrative any longer and evidence suggests that customers don’t have it either. How to Determine Facebook and Twitter ROI [INFOGRAPHIC] How do marketers determine social media ROI? This a question asked by many CEO’s and business owners that challenges marketers to deliver value from social media and make a return on their investment. So it’s no surprise that 77% of CEO’s think that marketers don’t really talk about what matters; sales. In fact, Edible Arrangements actually saw a double digit sales increase after a Facebook promotion!

Technology is our friend I have come across many campaigns in the last months that don’t use a URL anymore to open a feedback/more info channel for consumers, but a hashtag. I am not quite sure what to make of this, although this would seem like a nice iconic way to show a development: I started working in a traditional advertising agency in 1996, being a hardcore onliner privately, and I can remember our fights to get the URL into the out-of-home or print ads.
