Bahai Faith Index Google gets second shot at federal cloud contract, faces uphill fight | Gov-Con Solutions Blog | Gov-Con Solutions - Financial, Accounting & Educational Solutions for Government Contractors Article Excerpt: One year ago, Google sued the US Department of the Interior because it felt slighted over the agency’s wanting to use Microsoft’s cloud instead of Google Apps. Google’s lawsuit has earned it a second chance—but judging by the federal agency’s 60-page request for cloud services, Google would be tasked with integrating Apps into a Microsoft-heavy environment. To summarize, a lawsuit Google filed on Oct. 29, 2010 complained that the DOI’s request for quotation (RFQ) specified that it would only consider Microsoft’s Business Productivity Online Suite for a hosted e-mail and collaboration service, despite Google’s “numerous attempts to engage DOI in substantive discussions regarding the technical and cost-saving benefits of the Google Apps solution.” Full Article: Source: ars technica

Bahá'u'lláh The Price of a Federal Contract “Transparency promotes accountability and provides information for citizens about what their Government is doing.” Those are President Obama’s words, but they could easily have been said by me – or anybody who recognizes the importance of transparency to good government. Transparency means clarity, accountability and open communication, and it is an essential piece of democratic governance, which is why I’m so pleased by a Nov. 14 court ruling ordering a federal contractor to make its compensation data available to the department’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs. As part of a regular compliance review, OFCCP requested basic pay data from United Space Alliance, a spaceflight operations company with $8 billion in NASA contracts. While the company provided some information at the beginning of the investigation, it refused to provide additional records OFCCP needed to complete the review. Taxpayers should have confidence that their dollars are never being used to discriminate.

International Monetary Fund Gowildnrugged One Country A blog for your small business | Federal, state, and local government contracts. It’s Monday morning, and you’re sitting at your desk working on two proposals at the same time. Emails have piled up over the weekend, and you’re trying to plow through those as well. Suddenly, an urgent email arrives from The Boss with the subject line “We Have to Bid This!” Your first reaction is helplessness – how can I possibly add one more proposal to the workload? Doesn’t The Boss know that our proposal quality drops in proportion to the number we’re working on? Your next reaction is slight anger – why does The Boss think he needs to do my job for me? Then you realize that The Boss signs your paychecks, so you’d better respond with an answer he or she likes. As a seasoned professional, you know that responding to any RFP that drops out of the sky is probably not a good use of time and money. When I find myself in this situation (quite often), my gut reaction is to find a reason not to bid the RFP, and then make my case to The Boss. Step 1 : Check the due date.

Bahá’í International Community - United Nations Office CBP to unveil new border security metrics Customs and Border Protection will unveil in February new performance measures to characterize security along the southwestern border, according to the Government Accountability Office. In a report dated Nov. 17 that reviews the fiscal 2011 CBP spending plan for border security fencing, infrastructure and technology, the GAO says that CBP no longer measures border security in terms of "operational control." Operational control was the apex of a 5-level metric that caused some controversy after the GAO said (.pdf) in February that CBP placed on average annually just 126 additional miles of the southwestern border under operational control. Another will be a "Border Condition Index" based on outcomes of border activity.
