The Thai telecommunications conglomerate True is getting rave reviews worldwide for its latest spot, "Giving," which tells the story of a man unexpectedly rewarded for a lifetime of good deeds he performed without expecting anything in return. TrueMove too says it "believes in the power of giving without expecting a return." Which would probably be more meaningful if they were to, say, give away their services and devices for free. Je ne sais pas qui a eu l’idée du titre français, mais force est de constater qu’il est très mauvais. Traduire The Shallows (qui signifie les bas-fonds, alors que shallow en tant qu’adjectif veut dire ce qui est superficiel) par Internet rend-il bête ? n’est pas rendre service à ce passionnant essai de Nicholas Carr. Eventuellement pourrait-on faire le rapprochement entre le titre français et l’article, écrit en 2008 pour The Atlantic Monthly intitulé Is Google Making Us Stupid ? Mais The Shallows va beaucoup plus loin que ça. Autant dire qu’avant même de se faire une opinion sur les (gros) défauts de la toile, on apprend énormément de choses en lisant Nicholas Carr.
