Tie-Dye Shorts

Tie-Dye Shorts
Last year tie-dye shorts were popular and we thought they would definitely fizzle out by this summer. But as we all know, tie-dye shorts are back and better than ever. Last year we dip-dyed shorts, bleached shorts, and even tie-dyed our beach sheet (click each for the links). Hmmm, was there anything left? But of course! Following the traditional tie-dye instructions (get the item wet, put on the color, let dry, wash in cold water), the hardest part is waiting for them to dry. Step 1: Gather your supplies: tie-dye kit + white shorts. Step 2: Wet your shorts (following the tie-dye kit's instructions). Step 3: Apply color, let dry, and wash. Step 4: Wear and enjoy! That's all there is to making a pair of fantastic tie-dye shorts.

The Girls' Room: DIY Ombre Shorts Rainbow Zipper Pouch Tutorial (Looking for more free patterns? Be sure to check out my free patterns and tutorials page here.) I love my new zipper pouch! 12K+The pouch works perfectly as a break-away clutch to put inside a larger tote. I always wanted to make a regular pouch with a zipper top, but since one of my sponsors (Zipper Lane) sent me so many zippers, I thought I would make my interpretation of a "zipper pouch". All the zippers actually work, so you can open it any place you want! (Zipper Lane sells wholesale priced YKK zippers, you can get 100 7 inch zippers for $28. Do you want to make one too? Of course, it doesn't have to be rainbow, I picture it in a red and navy blue or all black for boys. UK fashion & nail art blog: DIY jewellery: how to make easy retro rings! making rings is so incredibly easy and quick! it's also pretty darn fun so I decided to dust off my craft box and show you a favourite DIY of mine. usually when I make rings I use old buttons or coins but I saw these novelty phone & cereal miniatures in my local craft shop I decided to give them a whirl (I love anything a bit kitsch!) you really only need three things to make these; rings blanks, glue and a centerpiece! to start with I removed the string cord from the phone and glued the receiver to the body (I used my glue gun but you can use craft glue like E6000 which is perfect for this project) simply dab glue on the flat ring blank disc and hold the phone into place until secure! I used the same process for the cereal boxes.. voila my rice crispie accessories are good to go! ring blanks: available on eBay here this is such a quick project and they make great novelty gifts (if you can bear to part with them!) I hope you try them. tweet me your pictures if you do I'd love to see them!

Giant Paper Rose Flower If you loved the beautiful DIY wedding this morning and Nata’s gorgeous paper flower bouquets, you are in luck as Nata is sharing how she crafted them with us! She was inspired by a template created by Morgan Levine on Martha Stewart (as was I in the flowers I created for this styled shoot). I just love that this basic idea has inspired different brides to create their own version of giant paper flowers – you might remember these equally awesome giant paper flowers from this wedding I shared last year. :) Thanks so much Nata for sharing how you created your giant pink paper rose + special thanks to Studio Castillero for the photos of the DIY + her wedding! Materials (to make one giant rose) Step 1: Cut the petals Cut 5-6 teardrop petals and 15-6 heart-shaped petals from the petal colored crepe paper. IMPORTANT: Crepe paper is directional so it matters which way you’re cutting the paper. Repeat until all of your petals are cut Step 2: Cut the leaves + calyx Step 3: Make the rose stem

DIY Studded iPhone Case A while ago I came across this studded iphone case from Threadsence. I thought it was super cute but too expensive. So I put my craftiness to the test and made an attempt at my own. What you'll need: Phone case (I got 2 for $5 on Ebay) Iron on studs (make sure they have no "legs") Krazy glue Ruler Pencil I laid out my design first before gluing anything, just to get an idea of how it would look. Put a small dot of glue directly onto the case, where you'd like the stud to go. In order to maintain a straight line of studs, it's best to take your time. I love my new case! Shrinky Dink Necklace | with lovely, with lovely, Remember Shrinky Dinks ? I recently rediscovered them, and it turns out they’re just as amazing now as they were when I was five. I love how versatile this magical material is. It starts out thin and semi-transparent, so you can draw your own creation or easily trace an existing image to make an impressive-looking replica. I used the tracing method to create customized dog necklaces and they turned out super cute! Start by choosing a photo of your dog with a good silhouette. Place a piece of white paper over the your computer screen and trace it with a pencil. Next, place a sheet of Shrinky Dink material directly over the paper and copy over the pencil line with a fine-tipped marker. When your outline is complete, cut roughly around it to get most of the excess material out of your way. Preheat the oven to 325°, then place your cut-out in the oven on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 1–3 minutes. Voila! With Lovely,

Operation Sleep Cute: Sleep Shorts I actually took a picture of the giant pile of sweatpants that I usually sleep in, but it’s too embarrassing to share. Point is, I’m trying to cute up the whole sleep situation with some quick sewing projects. It also makes lounging around the house feel sort of special and less, I don’t know….gross. I started with some sleep shorts in our beloved Nicey Jane (ooo, it’s on sale right now at Fabricworm). I also made a matching top which I will share with you once I get up the nerve to have my picture taken in it. If you have any tips on sleeping a little bit cuter, tutes to point us to so we don’t look like such slobs, or general whining about why it is that we have to look cute while we freaking sleep, leave them for us in the comments and you could possibly win the Heather Ross Double Gauze up there on the left. Get the full Sleep Shorts Tutorial after the jump…Operation Sleep Cute: Sleep Shorts 1. 2. 3. 4. Sew them up and finish the edges: 5. and stitching in place: 6. Done!

Callaloo Soup: Tuesday To-Do | Use T-Shirt Yarn to Crochet a Basket At last here is the long overdue tutorial. Did you get a chance to make some t-shirt yarn? Here is what you need to crochet a basket using that yarn. At least 2 balls of t-shirt yarn and a large crochet hook. The base of the basket is made by crocheting in the round, and increasing each round by 6 stitches. Instructions Chain 6 Join with a slip stitch to form a circle Round 1: 2 single crochet (sc) in each stitch around = 12 stitches Round 2: 2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in next stitch. Round 3: 2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in each of next two stitches. At this point my work measures 5" so I will stop increasing. Round 4: 2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in each of next three stitches. Round 5: 2 sc in first stitch, 1 sc in each of next four stitches. etc. Once the base is complete it's time to work on the sides! Side Round 1: 1 sc in each stitch around Sides Round 2---? This is the easiest part and flies by quickly, as all you are doing is adding rounds of 1 sc in each stitch. There you have it!
