What differentiates Europeans from Americans (Europe and USA) | ReasonPad The cultural gap across the Atlantic The Western world (i.e. Europe, the Americas, Australia and New Zealand) could be considered as a single “Western civilisation”. ‘Westernness’ could be defined by people who are ethnically or culturally European, in other words people of European descent or speaking a European language as their mother-tongue. Europe itself has the greatest linguistic and cultural diversity of the Western world. Here is a summary of my observations on the differences between Europeans and Americans (USA). Feeling of time & distances Perception is shaped by our environment. Things are reversed when it comes to distances. Cars Almost all Europeans have cars with manual gears, while Americans have a marked preference for automatic ones. European cars are also very different in style than their American counterparts. Washing machines Measure System All Europeans use the metric system (metres, grammes, litres, Celsius, etc.). Date and time system Public holidays Social customs Food

REVOLUTION | Lenin’s Theory of Imperialism Lenin described imperialism as the “highest stage of capitalism.” The nature of capitalism and its doctrine of profit maximization mean that imperialism is a process by which capitalists are forced into in search of greater profits in ever shrinking, unstable markets. The idea of imperialism can be roughly broken down into three main categories: monopolies, finance capital, and militarism. Monopolies Monopolies (in the shape of multinationals) are more powerful than ever before. In turn, the gap between rich imperialist countries and developing countries has become greater and greater. Finance Capital Again, the process of imperialism means finance capital is being concentrated into fewer and fewer hands. The result of this is that the economy becomes ever more unstable. The pinnacle of this process seems to be the creation of the IMF and the World Bank. Militarism The U.S. now has a military presence in over 100 countries around the world.
Anarcho-primitivism History[edit] Origins[edit] Anarchism started to have an ecological view mainly in the writings of American individualist anarchist and transcendentalist Henry David Thoreau. In his book Walden, he advocates simple living and self-sufficiency among natural surroundings in resistance to the advancement of industrial civilization.[2] "Many have seen in Thoreau one of the precursors of ecologism and anarcho-primitivism represented today by John Zerzan. In the late 19th century anarchist naturism appeared as the union of anarchist and naturist philosophies.[4][5] It mainly was important within individualist anarchist circles[2][6] in Spain,[4][5][2] France[2] and Portugal.[7] Important influences in it were Henry David Thoreau,[2] Leo Tolstoy[4] and Elisee Reclus.[8] Anarcho-naturism advocated vegetarianism, free love, nudism and an ecological world view within anarchist groups and outside them.[4][6] This tendency was strong enough as to call the attention of the CNT–FAI in Spain.

A dystopia (from the Greek δυσ- and τόπος, alternatively, cacotopia,[1] kakotopia, cackotopia, or anti-utopia) is the vision of a society that is the opposite of utopia. A dystopian society is often a planned structured society in which the conditions of life are deliberately made miserable, characterized by poverty, oppression, violence, disease, scarcity, and/or pollution for the benefit of a select minority or some unnatural societal goal. Many of the listed works below are generally considered as being dystopian because their story emphasizes one or more detrimental societal characteristics that would be considered unusual if practiced in a utopian society. However, there are some stories with similar detrimental societal characteristics that are not considered as dystopias by some critics because these same characteristics are now currently or have in the past been practiced to varying degrees in the real world.
