Sure, people still use it, but there are a slew of apps that go way beyond it, offering easy multimedia functions, group chats, video calls, gaming and much more. Beyond being SMS replacements, these apps are essentially ‘SMS+’ — to coin a phrase uttered to me recently by the founder of a messaging company. Notes from Startup School 2013 | Fitoop Blog I was lucky enough to get to attend YCombinator’s Startup School today. I figured it might help some people who weren’t there to see my notes from the day – it really was a fantastic education for anybody who has ever considered starting their own startup. These are pulled from my notes in Evernote here Notes from Startup School Comment overhead in line – “yeah, he doesn’t want to work at <fast growing startup whose CEO spoke today> anymore because those people all go home around 8. Phil Libin – Evernote -most important thing is great co-founders -you shouldn’t even be friends with someone you’re not willing to start a company with. 2nd most important lesson – being your own boss really sucks if you’re doing consulting. - it shouldn’t be just any product. - let’s build something that we love, that we ARE the target audience Two guiding principles - let’s build something that we’re in love withLet’s make it our life work – no exit strategy - it does not pay to be innovative with company structure
IDEO CEO Tim Brown on the future of "design thinking" - 60 Minutes Les cent livres du siècle Un article de Wikipédia, l'encyclopédie libre. Top 10 WordPress Plugins of the Month — April 2013 Edition Welcome to another edition of the ManageWP Plugins of the Month series! For the most part the plugins I feature in this monthly roundup are manually selected from a dynamic list that filters by various variables (such as average rating and number of downloads). That is what makes the ManageWP Plugins of the Month series unique – it features only new and relatively unknown plugins. However, on occasion I will stumble across a plugin myself that cries out for inclusion. This month I actually have two such plugins, which only serves to lift the overall quality of the selection on offer. 10. I actually came across this plugin thanks to a ManageWP reader who recommended it in the comments section in a recent post (thanks Rob!). …and any future uploaded images that are larger than the specified dimensions will be automatically downsized. In addition to this you can also set the plugin to automatically convert BMPs into JPGs and set the default compression rate for JPG images. 9. 8. 7. 6. 5. 3.

The Story Behind The Famous FedEx Logo, And Why It Works The following is an excerpt from The Laws of Subtraction by Matthew May (McGraw-Hill). My ten-year-old daughter points out the logo on a FedEx truck every time she sees one. She’s done that without fail ever since she learned to sound out letters. But she doesn’t do that with any other logo. “There’s the white arrow that no one on my gymnastics team knows about,” she’ll say. The FedEx logo is legendary among designers. We spoke at length about visual impact, his creative process, and his story of the FedEx logo development. “It’s those kinds of stories that are the most gratifying for me, most rewarding,” he says. When Lindon graduated from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, his very first job was with Saul Bass, the iconic Los Angeles designer perhaps best known for creating the AT&T logo. According to Lindon, seeing the original Smith & Hawken catalogs in the 1980s made a significant impression on him and influenced much of his early approach to design.
