U.S. Immigration Since 1965 - Facts & Summary In reality (and with the benefit of hindsight), the bill signed in 1965 marked a dramatic break with past immigration policy, and would have an immediate and lasting impact. In place of the national-origins quota system, the act provided for preferences to be made according to categories, such as relatives of U.S. citizens or permanent residents, those with skills deemed useful to the United States or refugees of violence or unrest. Though it abolished quotas per se, the system did place caps on per-country and total immigration, as well as caps on each category. As in the past, family reunification was a major goal, and the new immigration policy would increasingly allow entire families to uproot themselves from other countries and reestablish their lives in the U.S. In the first five years after the bill’s passage, immigration to the U.S. from Asian countries–especially those fleeing war-torn Southeast Asia (Vietnam, Cambodia)–would more than quadruple.

The Birth of ‘Illegal’ Immigration _ Article Until the late 19th century, there wasn’t any such thing as “illegal” or “legal” immigration to the United States. That’s because before you can immigrate somewhere illegally, there has to be a law for you to break. American immigration didn’t really begin until the late 1700s, when the United States became an independent nation. Notebook Google Slides After I posted the first Digital Notebooks with sections, I received many inquiries about changing their colors, and because those templates were created with digital paper images, changing colors was not an easy thing to do, because of that, I’ve created these new versions that use Theme Colors! So now, you can just edit the master and change them! I’ve included 4 different paper styles: Blank, Dot Grid, Graph Paper and Ruled. Do not delete or add slides, duplicate the existing ones so you don’t have to add the links again. If you want to use a different layout (blank, dot grid, graph or ruled), right click on the slide that you have duplicated, click on “Apply Layout” and select the layout that you want.

An Introduction to 100 Important Paintings with Videos Created by Smarthistory If you have an interest in how the internet has widened the very concept of education, you may well know about Google's Art Project, a digital wealth of free visual art information and viewing opportunities we've featured before. And you more than likely know about Khan Academy, the highest-profile producer of educational videos on the internet. Now, from the combined power of their learning resources comes this collection of video introductions to over 100 important paintings. Ranging from between two to nine minutes and covering works of art created in eras from 575 B.C.E to the Second World War, these brief but intellectually dense and visually rich lessons bear the label of Smarthistory, "a multimedia web-book about art and art history" that merged with Khan Academy in 2011. Just above, we have Vincent van Gogh's 1889 The Bedroom, a painting that, in the words of the artist himself, "ought to rest the brain — or rather, the imagination."

U.S. Immigration Before 1965_ Article From its earliest days, America has been a nation of immigrants, starting with its original inhabitants, who crossed the land bridge connecting Asia and North America tens of thousands of years ago. By the 1500s, the first Europeans, led by the Spanish and French, had begun establishing settlements in what would become the United States. In 1607, the English founded their first permanent settlement in present-day America at Jamestown in the Virginia Colony. Some of America’s first settlers came in search of freedom to practice their faith.
