In 2009, Pearltrees started out as a bookmarking service with a quirky interface. Since then, the service has added a number of new curation features like support for uploading files, taking notes and managing your photos. Today the company is announcing a major new feature with the launch of its Smartcloud service. To power the algorithms behind this service, Pearltrees relies on the data it can extract from the tens of millions of bookmarks and files its users have already organized (and in addition, Pearltrees can extract semantic data from most sites). As the Pearltrees team told me, it developed all the technology behind this feature in-house. In my test, the feature actually worked surprisingly well. The new Smartcloud tool is now available on the web and should find its way into Pearltrees’ Android and iOS apps within the next couple of days.

The Internet’s Social Libraries: Pinterest and Pearltrees Miranda Moore Social media is something that most people use every day. Whether we’re updating our statuses on Facebook or taking pictures of our food on Instagram, social media is used to keep up with those near and far from us. A popular trend in social media is a sort of webpage described as a “social library.” What are these social libraries and how do they stack up against each other? What is Pinterest? Pinterest is basically an online pin board that relies more heavily on pictures than text, though text can also be used. Pinterest was founded by Ben Silbermann, Paul Sciarra, and Evan Sharp. Much like that of other social networking sites, Pinterest has its own terms for how to work the site. In addition to the website, Pinterest also has a mobile app that is available for Apple and Android devices. What is Pearltrees? Pearltrees was founded by Patrice Lamothe, Alain Cohen, Nicolas Cynober, Samuel Tissier, and Francis Rocaboy. Credit: Pearltrees Pearltrees versus Pinterest More To Read:

Understanding Pearltrees' history, growth, usage and more Website Pearltrees is a visual and collaborative curation tool[5][6][7][8] that allows users to organize, explore and share any URL they find online as well as to upload personal photos, files and notes.[9] The product features a visual interface[10][11] that allows users to drag and organize collected URLs, and other digital objects[12] that themselves can be further organized into collections and sub-collections,(URLs). Users of the product can also engage in social/collaborative curation using a feature called Pearltrees Teams. New links added to user accounts and new collections created by users can also be broadcast via a user's Twitter and Facebook accounts if users have enabled this feature. Pearltrees was founded by Patrice Lamothe, CEO,[15] Alain Cohen, CTO,[16] Nicolas Cynober, Technical Director,[17] Samuel Tissier, Ergonomy/UI[citation needed] and Francois Rocaboy, CMO.[18] History[edit] Development of Pearltrees began in 2007. What is Content Curation? Content curation is the process of gathering information relevant to a particular topic or area of interest, usually with the intention of adding value through the process of selecting, organizing, and looking after the items in a collection or exhibition.[1] Services or people that implement content curation are called curators. Curation services can be used by businesses as well as end users. Concept[edit] Museums and galleries have curators to select and interpret items for collection and display. There are also curators in the world of media, for instance DJs of radio stations tasked with selecting songs to be played over the air. Methods[edit] Content curation can be carried out either manually or automatically or by combination of them. Collaborative filtering[edit] Collaborative filtering is a method of forecasting often used in recommendation systems. Semantic analysis[edit] Social rating[edit] This method employs user ratings and recommendations to select content. See also[edit]
