RA Podcast: RA.416 Sandrien Share this podcast Techno from the Dutch capital. Trouw in Amsterdam is one of Europe's best clubs, and Sandrien is one its best DJs. She's been playing music in the Dutch capital since 1999, and has established herself as one of the country's go-to techno DJs. For a long time she played alongside her friend Carlos Valdes—the pair ran a successful party together called MAD2 at Club 11, Trouw's predecessor and a bygone favourite in the city's rave community. With Trouw's closure looming on the horizon, Sandrien's excellent 90-minute mix for us feels especially significant. What have you been up to recently? Things are going very well. How and where was the mix recorded? I recorded the mix at Trouw in Amsterdam on a Friday afternoon while the club was closed. Can you tell us about the idea behind the mix? I really wanted to catch the vibe of a DJ set I would normally play at the Imprint nights, that's why I recorded it at the club. It will be a big loss. What are you up to next?

Stream Forward Strategy Group’s grit-blasted Labour Division in full Last week, FACT’s Ruaridh Law waxed lyrical about Forward Strategy Group’s Labour Division. Released through grit-blaster techno faculty Perc Trax, Law described the album as “a deeply assured, personal album from a group already demonstrating their mastery of nuance, balance and – yes – a big heavy beat smacking you squarely around the head”, and hoped that its quality could help to”pull some of techno’s more lacklustre producers into a more creative, personal mindset” (yes please). Perc Trax have now started streaming the album in full on their Soundcloud. Forward Strategy Group – Labour Division – full album stream by Perc

FACT mix 300: Objekt Photo credit: Matthias Heiderich FACTs 300th mix comes from almost certainly our dance music newcomer of 2011, Berlin’s Objekt. Objekt hasn’t released much in 2011, but that’s one of the reasons his emergence has been so welcome. In an age of oversaturation and overexposure, where people feel the need to upload their entire life stories to Soundcloud after two weeks of watching Logic tutorials, he’s the definition of someone who’s taken time to hone a craft (he’s actually worked as a programmer at Native Instruments for several years, which goes some way to explaining why his music is so sonically potent), and waited until they’re 100% ready before exposing their wares to the world at large. And what an impact Objekt’s music has made. Objekt’s FACT mix is roughly in line with the music he’s released so far: underground techno full of staggered drums and inventive sampling, presented impeccably while never sounding too straight, smooth or unnatural.
